Just an Update, Kitties, Exhibits and New Things

Inspirations exhibit and sale
Inspirations exhibit and sale

I started setting up my exhibit and sale today, and it has to be the hottest day of the year to get ready and set up. So if you wondered what Mariposa was supurrvising the other day, this was it! Lots of framing and last-minute details.

Right now we are waiting for a cold front to come through before I get to those extra garden flags and frame those photos, but up to now we’ve been sweltering! I was very concerned about Mr. Sunshine yesterday since he has been diagnosed with hypertension and I know from first-hand experience what extreme heat can do. He was upstairs by the window where he likes it, but he was obviously unable to get comfortable. I picked him up and brought him downstairs with Mimi and me and he felt the 77 degrees and said, “Yeah……” curled up in a box and slept all afternoon.

95 degrees outside, 92 degrees on the second floor, 88 degrees on the first floor, 77 degrees in the basement. Where is the best place for big fluffy Boys in weather like this? And all the rest of us pretty much.

This matched set is enjoying the cool concrete, I actually had a hard time telling them apart earlier. Simba right at the door, is actually a little bit larger than Basil on the floor. But they are both so similar whether I look at them from above or from the side, I have to look straight at their faces or see Simba’s fluffy feathers to really be able to tell.

Now that the sun has left the yard and it’s cooler in the back, I opened the basement door for some air that can circulate through the rest of the house through the evening.

We had to take a couple of steps back with Simba’s #slowintegration, and a hot day when their room is unbearable is a great day to open the door again. So far the little break worked well for everybody. He was getting over stimulated in less and less time each day when I let him out. That means he needs a longer break in between. So we took a week off, and I’ll have him out every other day for the next week or so and see how that works for him. He’s not frightened it’s just that there are eleven other cats in the house and that’s a lot for any cat.

Basil wants to get to know Simba, and he just wants to get closer and smell him a few times and then sit near him. That was making Simba nervous earlier. And then that in turn made Basil nervous earlier. Today they sniffed a little, they had a little conversation, then they both settled down and nobody’s tail is flicking, both are relaxed.

Upcycled Jar Lamps
Upcycled Jar Lamps

One of the newest things I’ve made and had with me at the Carnegie Spring Market last Sunday were my Upcycled Jar Lamps—a step up from the votives, I’ve added battery-operated string lights with a timer so they can be used as lamps or night lights that come on automatically, or as you turn them on. Several new designs, and they are clear and colorful in daylight or when lit.  Here’s a video where Mimi and I were inspecting them for the very first time after I’d finished making them and turned on the lights.

I offered these first to the subscribers of The Creative Cat Preview Newsletter at the beginning of June. I wanted to wait until after I had this weekend’s exhibit before I listed them on my website, but after that I’ll be listing all the ones that didn’t sell. You can still browse and buy one on my website, but I don’t have them individually listed just to save myself some time. You can find them here.

And here’s a quick video of the work I got done setting up today. Tomorrow I’ll finish, and Saturday I’ll open.

Below is the information about my exhibit this weekend. I may be scarce—I hope I’m crazy busy! So I just wanted to drop in and let you know what’s up. Stay cool! Stay away from those storms!
