Cats for Adoption: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day With Three Unique Kitties!

No guarantee these three kitties will bring you luck on St. Patrick’s Day, but they are guaranteed to bring you affection and amusement! They are all adults, friendly, outgoing and ready for a new home of their very own.

Hamster

Yes, Hamster does have a unique appearance. When he was rescued his ears were scarred from auricular hematomas, blood vessels that burst in the ears causing the ear to swell, and left untreated causing permanent scarring. It’s very painful and causes the ears that appear crumpled. Hamster’s case was so severe that even his ear canals were scarred along with his ears being completely disfigured. The condition remains very painful so it was decided the best course of treatment was to remove the pinnae, or the tall, pointy, cupped things we recognize as their ears, completely. The damage was so extensive it’s not certain if he has any hearing left, but he’s so darned happy to be rid of those ears he really doesn’t care how he looks! In fact, he sings about it—he’s a very vocal cat along with being relaxed and affectionate.

Aside from that, he’s just a friendly and affectionate cat with a lovely long buff coat and is in perfect health otherwise. Here is what his foster says of Hamster:

Hamster as you can see is a very unique long haired kitty. He is a very vocal cat. He has very little to no hearing. That has led his foster to think his vocal outbursts are from the lack of hearing. He likes to meow and even an occasional hiss but no signs of being aggressive to humans. He however does not like other pets. (He is a new foster so this might change in time)

Freddy

Freddy is ready! Ready for play and interaction, he’d love being petted all day long but he gets a little overstimulated so you need to play some more, then go back to petting. Poor guy probably didn’t get enough pets in his five years, he has a lot to make up for!

Hi! Freddy here. My foster mom dressed me up as you can see. I am an adventurous outgoing guy about 5 years old. I love attention and to play. I do sometimes get a little rough and grab your hand with my front paws and play bite, all in good taste of course! I have something called FIV, but I like other cats so the risk of spreading is very low. I can live with dogs, I just don’t get up close and personal with them. (cats rule and dogs drool!!!).

Dasher

Twelve years old, big deal! I’ve had cats live into their twenties, so Dasher still has lots of time left, and he hardly even looks that age. He was unfortunately declawed, but is a quiet, gentle cat who loves to sleep on a lap.

Hi! I’m Dasher. I am a declawed 12 year old handsome man….I know I know. I don’t look my age. I am a catnip junkie, that’s what keeps my youthful looks. After 12 years my old owners surrendered me to be euthanized because they thought I was paranoid…Do I look paranoid?? Didn’t think so. I can/do exist with other animals but would love a nice quiet home. I will let you know if I can see the bottom of the food bowl, and I will paw at your leg gently for attention. While I don’t like to be held, I will curl up in your lap and take a nap or lay beside you for attention for hours. My adoption fee has been sponsored!

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

• Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
• Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
• Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
• Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
• Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
