Jazz Cat Comes Home
Pittsburgh native and jazz musician Derrick R. Finch was killed in an auto accident in Los Angeles in February. Though his name wasn’t a headliner, he was serious about his career and extremely talented, and the world would miss one more young and talented musician.
He had earned his doctorate at UCLA, had decided to settle there and had adopted a cat, Shadow, who actually traveled around with him in the car. Shadow was with him during the accident, but only suffered two broken teeth. Paramedics and police found her and took her to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus who, in turn, contacted his mother and asked if she’d like to adopt her son’s cat.
Her son had loved the cat, so of course she would. Lots of people worked together to fly the cat back to Pittsburgh. Read the rest in the Post-Gazette: A cat helps mend a mother’s broken heart, http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09094/960424-62.stm?cmpid=newspanel1.
