Daily Sketch Reprise: Bella, 2014
Bella was inspiring from the moment she arrived! Here is the first sketch she inspired, just a few days later.
Pretty Bella, she is so slender and graceful! She loves to curl up on the toilet tank and lean against the tissue box, and as soon as I saw her, especially when I saw the photo below, I had an idea for an illustration of her. Just simplify the background with a green level she is lying on and a pattern on the left, not even the tissue box, in colors to match her eyes, the tank and then a darker green–the tissue box had black, but I just didn’t like it when I tried it out, too much competition with the star.
Got to have those beans on the bottom of her foot, and the curled hind foot! And of course those round eyes! I actually painted this last night but it was so late I wanted to wait until today to post it, and now it’s getting late again! Here is the reference photo.
I stood at the doorway behind the baby gate with my cats and sketched as fast as I could.

When I woke up and saw Bella fascinated by the early snow squall, this is what I saw, and I also remember that without someone to rescue her she’d be out there, she might be trying to feed herself and kittens like Mimi did, she might not even have survived, instead of sitting safe inside a big window in a warm house with her current career as an artist’s model. It’s not just what I see that’s inspiring, it’s what I know too. Read more and purchase.
