Marketplace: 10 New Feline Garden Flag Designs

I’ve had the idea to add new designs to my feline garden flags for the past few years and so I finally did! As always my little muse Mimi is in there a couple of times along with a variety of other kitty colors and patterns, others from my feline family through the years as well as a couple paintings of others’ cats and a book cover illustration! And with a lot of color overall.
Should I keep making and selling garden flags?
Products go up and down with popularity. In 2021, 2022 and 2023 I printed a full set of all my other designs more than once and sold them all except a few stragglers. In 2024 I printed the most popular ones at the beginning of the year but only about half the total sold and I went through 2025 with the leftovers from those. I started the year with about 12 flags and wasn’t sure if I’d be producing any because of the issues, now resolved, with my heat press. I printed another set of the most popular. Was it time to give garden flags a break and maybe consider another product entirely?
But flags were moving at my first events and last week at the farmers market even more. So with my heat press in good shape and the materials on hand I decided I’d keep the garden flags, and it was time for some new designs, the ones you see above. We’ll see which ones catch on and which ones kind of lag, but I’m always surprised that when it comes down to the selection someone will find that one of the flags fits their needs.
The new flags
You can see the rough edges on these flags because I still need to trim them around the edges and stitch in the rod pocket at the top and the hem at the bottom. Then they’ll be packaged with the header I use on them and stashed in their particular bin to be packed into the car tomorrow for Sunday’s market.
I make my flags using commercial-quality fabric transfers which I use a heat press to transfer onto cotton duck canvas. When I started making garden flags I made just as many nature-themed flags as feline flags, but they just weren’t as popular. I may consider printing some ideas I’ve had for a few years next month or so.
I’ll get these up on the website after this weekend (because now I have some keepsake boxes to finish). In the meantime you can find the current designs on Portraits of Animals.
Carnegie Farmers Market
This is my regular Sunday event, which increased from 12 Sundays July through September to 18 Sunday from June to October, and also increased from 12 to 3 to 11 to 3 so it’s four hours. I’d been suggesting that for a couple of years, especially the duration because all that setup for three hours is okay, but having more time after all that work and catching those earlier people made a difference even yesterday. I was going to be looking for a few extra events this year to make a little extra but this will likely suffice. The bigger shows are difficult, with more products to make and pack and display, place to store and transport these things, more time to prepare and onsite, and more time on my feet, which I’ve been trying to minimize.

This week I had my new art panels and more of my display, but still my old tent. Investing in the art panels really benefits me because they pack on the top of my car instead of inside where the old ones hung over my head while I was driving, kind of unsafe! They are lightweight and easy to set up and tear down, so altogether less wear and tear on me.
But they may actually pay for themselves at some point because I can display so much more merchandise, and display it better than with all my old homemade latticework and welded steel store displays. These events are an important part of my income and seeing people browsing longer and considering one design or product after another and then buying, so far, a little more than usual is really exciting.
Here’s a view of last week’s market setup. I’ll be adding more to it this week and changing things around a bit too.
Maybe I’ll see you at one of my other local events. Check my schedule for where I’ll be this spring and summer.

Sienna is a little annoyed that she is not on a towel.
I have so much to do to prepare for this event! Sienna keeps me in line…until she sneaks back upstairs for an all-day nap on the bed.
