Mimi’s Veterinary Visit

Mimi had a senior kitty visit from our longtime (26-year) housecall veterinarian on Wednesday, and Mr. Sunshine carefully observed to make sure our vet and her tech treated his mom right!
Mimi is about 16 and has been experiencing some typical senior cat issues like mild renal insufficiency, occasional urinary issues, and an inconsistent appetite, but she has occasionally suffered from these through her life.
Mimi had a rough beginning as a very small kitty giving birth to six litters (that I know of) before age 4, with a lot of outdoor living. She had GI and urinary issues even then, and took a very long time to gain weight and seem comfortable. I have charted her health from the beginning.
A persistent urinary issue prompted this vet visit (I am regularly in touch with my vet by phone). Also, last week she had a reiki treatment, and acupuncture and wellness treatments from Dr. Michelle Elgersma which helped with rebalance and detox. Our housecall vet thinks Mimi looks great for her age and recommends to just remain vigilant and keep in touch. We will treat any conditions as they arise.
Everyone eats meals together but I keep generally low phosphorus foods for Mimi to eat between meals, she keeps herself well hydrated with our cat fountain and many water bowls, and I feed only wet food in a variety of flavors, brands as canned pate, prepared by the house chef, and raw.
I am so glad I have this health care available for her. I had to wait a few months for this exam because my hip condition prevented me from attending vendor events and cut my income in half, one of my biggest fears, not being able to afford critical care for my cats.
So please wish Mimi continued health!
In the meantime…

“We want our exam!” Giuseppe, Jelly Bean and Mr. Sunshine are disappointed they won’t get one. Jelly Bean settled on the scale and refused to leave. Today was Mimi’s day, they’ll get their chance in the spring. That’s the nice thing about housecall veterinarians, the patients aren’t as frightened, sometimes not frightened at all!

That is SO cool that your vet comes to your home ~ What a stress free vet visit! That is an awesome service. We live out of town, so that’s not an option for our kitties. Bummer.
I’m so grateful for this vet, for her skills and her house calls. I see more and more house call businesses and I’m glad for that.
