A Couple of Smiles

Giuseppe's green sparkle ball.
Giuseppe’s green sparkle ball, the first of a couple of smiles.

Giuseppe came for a visit on Friday morning. First thing I step on something small and squishy as I go to the sink, lift my foot to see the little bit of sparklies and recognize the color. I haven’t seen his green sparkle ball in months, even before the construction. As I moved things in and out of every room and swept and cleaned and organized other toys showed up, but never this larger green sparkle ball. It was Giuseppe’s absolute favorite toy when he was quite young, and somehow it’s disappeared and then reappeared all these years.

Giuseppe with his green sparkle ball, April 17, 2009.

He was so obsessed with it and I found the play of this rather large cat and the tiny green sparkle ball so much fun I wrote a poem about it:

Loping along, he freezes in mid-stride at the sight of it,
silently flattens himself, tail straight out behind,
ears alert, pupils dilated in amber eyes glowing from black fur,
his whole world centered on his prey,
a little wiggle of the hind end and he creeps forward
one soundless step, then another,
now, completely ready, he springs onto his prey,
a small bright green fuzzy ball with sparkly silver threads poking out all around…

I’ve been thinking about Giuseppe every day and I’m happy to see a visit from him. I miss him so much. I’m not containing the green sparkle ball as a shrine to him but letting it travel where it may as it always has, so that I know when Giuseppe is around.

The other smile is my new glasses, and the fact that I’m able to spend my usual amount of time on my computer and social networking. I went four years between glasses; two years ago I had a new prescription, but then Mr. Sunshine, and then each of the others, took precedence with urgent veterinary care from then to just last month. And even this month and ongoing, Mr. Sunshine will see our veterinarian on Wednesday, Mimi will go at the end of the month, and all the others have not seen a veterinarian in a few years aside from a few emergencies with Basil, Morty and Sienna. Time to get right with all that. I also feel I’m ready to get back to my artwork. I’ll be sharing existing feline artwork to start with, but I’ll probably be working on other subjects as I begin painting again.

So I’m looking forward to keeping in touch and sharing my amazing feline household as I always have. Even though I haven’t shared new photos, I never stopped taking photos through all this time!

“Rolling Around” framed.

Giuseppe was having a really good roll around on the floor, for no apparent reason except that it made him happy. I think we should all do that each day! Read more and order.

  • It’s good when they visit. I get that.

Love the poem. Reminds me of our Squeaker. She does this often.

    • I think he stashed it all those years so he could bring it out, and he’s still doing that! Thanks for visiting and have an equally fabulous day.

    That was a sweet sign.

    • It was. I immediately had a good smile when I saw it, and every time I look at it there.
