Daily Photo: Mimi’s Tree Branch
Mimi loves to rub her face on things, especially outdoors. This stubby branch left behind on her branch is a favorite, just the right height and placement, and very sturdy for a lot of good face rubs.
I have been trying to figure out how to bring Mimi’s branch indoors. It’s connected to the mulberry tree which toppled over in an ice storm a few years ago and this dead branch is the only thing keeping it from lying down on the ground. It’s a nice long branch and not too big around, good angles for kitties to climb and scratch. I don’t have a single room big enough for it though. Below, Mimi stands on the next level and rubs her face on a small knot left behind from trimming.

The Problem With Kittens, 2015
…is that they have no idea how annoying they are. Or maybe they do. Mewsette is trying to enjoy the warm windowsill but Smokie sees it as an opportunity of a lifetime to wrestle with a family member he hasn’t wrestled with yet!
Mewsette is cool about this and just tries to ignore him, but Smokie can’t keep his paws off her, he just has to keep touching her.
He makes the mistake of kind of smacking her on the face when she turns to look at him…
Well, he gets that face, quick! Paws off.
No, he still can’t resist!
Oops, Mewsette, I didn’t mean that.
It’s all I can do to keep my patience and not smack this kid!
In moments, Smokie is right back to it.
Epilogue, she did eventually grab him and toss him off the top of the wardrobe. Mewsette doesn’t fool around—she grew up with three brothers—those three brothers! The ones who Smokie thinks he can wrestle with. I don’t think he’s going to bother Mewsette for a while.

No matter how enticing that mulberry tree branch might seem, remember that if you bring any of it indoors it could be a Trojan horse for insect invaders. (But we do love you, Mimi, and we understand completely.)
Meg, yes–we had fruit trees in the yard growing up and know all about carpenter ants in fruit tree wood. I have some oak logs drying on my deck from two years ago. That usually does it. But I really want the catio.
