Daily Photo: A Good Chance of a Nap
Today warm and sunny with an excellent chance for a good nap. Basil is full out on his back with all his toes curled, and Mariposa has a good stretch and spreads her toe beans.
When I work in my studio all the cats in the house tend to gather on the bed for an all-day nap. When I leave the studio I peek around the corner into my bedroom to see them all in great repose. Because I’ve been working in my studio each day for most of the day lately this has been a daily occurrence.
The warm days and open windows have made afternoons very pleasant. Without the tree out front much more sunlight comes into the window and right now it’s nice.
Facebook and Instagram
Some days I don’t get the chance to post extra photos of my cats, only photos I’ve already posted here, but lately Mimi and I have been outdoors more often and I’ve had a chance to explore outdoors or local places I’ve driven through. Here are a few recent photos.
Our backyard bunny is trying to act as if a cat and a human didn’t just walk into the backyard.
Actually, on Earth Day, I got stuck in traffic on the way back to my house in the afternoon, took a short cut on some back streets, and ended up near one of my favorite conservation areas, Kane Woods, and the weather so beautiful, that I pulled in and parked, then took a short walk. I had my good camera with me and knew I’d be able to photograph the stream, the woods with the beautiful green haze of new leaves, and maybe some wildflowers.
Wow.
When I got back to my car the hem of my skirt was still damp and I had small twigs in my hair.
What a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day. Earth is so generous with her gifts, and yet they aren’t truly gifts, they are just the way she is, freely available to any and all who wish to enjoy. Happy Earth Day!
And our neighborhood…
My neighborhood from across the valley. I was at the library photographing some scenes there, and my house is on exactly the same level as the library. I love this little scene, especially in spring when it’s most colorful.
I live in an older small town, 1.3 square miles, just outside of Pittsburgh. Main Street is in the valley, the neighborhoods are on the hills surrounding. This is one small section, but it’s pretty much what we all look like on a spring afternoon.

And lots of beautiful photos from previous years.
Sienna Gets Tips From Mimi, 2018
Sienna joined us in the studio the other day while Mimi was enjoying a sunbath in the late afternoon. Sienna is still a little cautious about the cats she hasn’t developed a relationship with yet—so many other cats! And Sienna has to get to know them each one by one. And this meeting was important to Sienna because she typically steals all the time on my lap she can get, and with Mimi at the window it was wide open for her, but she bypassed me and went to sit next to Mimi. Mimi isn’t always keen about sharing her studio time or her sunny spot, but she was fine with Sienna joining her. But the two sat side by side, at first touching noses, a shot I missed because my work lights were in the way, then looking out the window watching the birds and the squirrels, people and cars out in the street, and the neighbor’s cat on his porch.

Siblings Day
We’re tired of getting our photo taken. The human heard it was siblings day so we had to sit still here until she got a good one. Can we have second breakfast now?

Wordless Wednesday: Studio Cat Basil, 2017

Basil, 2017
Basil’s typically not one of the windowsill crew in the studio, but instead prefers a nice box or basket on my work table, or lolling about upside down in a tangled position on my lap—or stealing my chair when I stand up. But here he found a nice sunny spot on the windowsill and enjoyed it for several hours, as I was totally distracted by enjoyed his quiet enjoyment of the sun and trees and warm air and bird songs. Here’s another photo I took that afternoon too.

Catching Up With This Week, 2016
Working my way backward from Saturday to last Tuesday, here are the photos I posted this past week.
You can always tell, when I don’t post at all, that work and things needed time and I had to give up posting for a few days. I’m still building Portraits of Animals, Hamlet and Ophelia have been moving forward and backward and needing time, I had to focus on two websites and other work for the week, my brother needed a few things, I took my camera for repairs, one of the ferals I’ve been helping the neighbor trap gave birth to her kittens on Thursday, the list goes on. But my cats never quit being inspiring, especially on the rare sunny day—Tuesday was overwhelming with the sunshine, as well as touching Hamlet’s belly.
It was really hard to choose the featured image for this post and I almost broke it up into several posts to be sure each group of photos got their due. Just scroll down and enjoy all the pictures!
Saturday is often a day in the kitchen, and that traditionally includes making a pot of soup and some baking and some other cooking. Today was just a pot of soup as everyone slowly gathers in the warm steamy kitchen on a cold and snowy day.

You know those moments where you walk upon a scene of your cats doing something that you always want to remember, whether it’s a regular habit or a one-time thing? This scene was one of Stanley’s regular habits during his last few years; every afternoon he’d head upstairs with intent and I’d find him curled in the same spot on the bed. Read more and purchase.
