I’m so excited about having this sketch as this month’s desktop calendar. Even though I try to keep the style, media and subject matter as different as possible from month to month and this painting has some of the same colors, its’ at the same window, it’s sunny, it’s a black kitty…April is the perfect month for such colors, and for Mimi’s annual celebration of this upstairs window she loves so much. Such a lovely spring morning with sunlight so full of color. On this day Mimi was feeling the weather and was everywhere—every windowsill, every spot of sun, challenging her children to wrestling matches, they running off and wrestling with the roll of paper towels. But she allowed herself a few quiet moments to just enjoy the warm sunshine now and then.

I’ve been ready for a regular old pastel painting after wandering around to other media and seeing her in the sun I could feel the pastels beneath my fingers. It wasn’t only Mimi and all the rich tones in her fur, but the colorful and varied shadows in the lace curtain, both creamy and cool, and the light from the window glaring pale blue and green and yellow with the hints of blue sky and promise of leaves. Yesterday morning was exceptional and full of inspiration.

This is done in Sennelier soft pastels on a scrap of Wallis sanded paper in Belgian mist.

Where to find this artwork

"Spring Morning" feline art card
“Spring Morning” feline art card

“Spring Morning” is a new addition to my Feline Fine Art Cards. The card is 5″ x 7″ printed digitally on 12 pt. silk-finish matte cover stock, blank inside, and offered with a choice of white or cream envelope. You can find this card on Portraits of Animals.

I also offer the framed original sketch and a variety of digital, giclee and canvas prints. The sketch is 6″ wide x 8″ high Sennelier soft pastels on a scrap of Wallis sanded paper in Belgian mist. It is matted with 1″ acid-free cream black core mat, framed in a 1-1/2″ white painted 8″ x 10″ solid wood frame (note: I am not entirely happy with how this looks and may change it!). The backing is acid-free foam core and the glass is premium clear glass. All framing is done by me in my studio.

You can find the framed painting and prints on Portraits of Animals as well.

Current New Member Print

You might notice that my new website, Portraits of Animals, has gifts for those who sign up for an account. Right now Current New Member Gifts are all prints from all of my galleries.

As part of this program, the monthly featured artwork and desktop calendar will always be one of the choices, so that means the current artwork, “Blending”, will only be available as one of the monthly prints until March 31. On April 1, that will be replaced with “Spring Morning”.

This month’s desktop calendar

I’ve worked this image into a desktop calendar for you to enjoy and use for the entire month. If these sizes don’t work for your device, or if you have problems, please let me know. Often I can troubleshoot the reason an image won’t download or won’t load on your device, but if I just can’t figure it out I can just email it to you and hope that works.

How to download and use your desktop calendar

  1. Click on one of the images below that matches the dimensions of your monitor to open the image in a new page.
  2. For desktop computers and laptops, right-click on that image and on a desktop computer choose “save as desktop wallpaper” or “save as background” or whichever option your operating system gives you to be able to do this. You may also simply save it to your hard drive and set it as your background from there.
  3. For mobile devices, download the image to your gallery then choose it as your wallpaper—this is slightly different on all devices.

I am absolutely in love with this! It reminds me of an impressionist work. Very beautiful.

Thank you! Studying the Impressionists and then discovering soft pastels totally changed my life as an artist. It’s all about the light.
