A new tote bag style and size, and eight new designs! Five are feline, three are flowers. I’m pleased to finally see this idea become a reality.
I’ve had this idea for a few years for a larger tote bag. It’s based on the larger size fabric transfer I use, which is 11″ x 17″. My idea was to make a fabric swatch that entire size, then back it with a solid color fabric. But when I mocked one up using paper I didn’t like the shape so much, too wide, but I didn’t want to waste any “printed” fabric nor waste any fabric transfer material by having two or three inches left over; I could print on that for pins and earrings and other sorts of things, but it wouldn’t be easy to run through my printer.
So back to the 11″ x 17″ size front and back, and to make it a size and shape I liked I folded paper and slipped it up into the bottom of the paper mock up until I liked the depth and shape of the bag. That ended up being about 2″ extra front and back which made the final bag about 13″ tall. Looking at the composition I decided to plan on making the extra fabric at the bottom a coordinating color rather than making them all in natural color, and also decided to back the bag with the same color fabric. Below, these three designs have white, black and navy blue trim, back and twill handles.
I trimmed all the fabric, printed the fabric transfers and pressed them onto the fabrics and had them ready to stitch up just after my garden flags during my open house week, but the garden flags gave me a little problem so I held off and put them together earlier this week. I made five feline designs including the three above and the two below.
I also made three flower designs, and knowing that many of you love your flowers I’ve included them here.
So I’ll see how popular these designs are, and I also have other ideas for designs that might work. Let me know what you think and if you’d like to see a certain design.
Where to find the tote bags
You can find them all on Portraits of Animals on the page for Totes, Accessories and Purses.
The manufacturer of the fabric transfers I use to make these and many other products will give me a discount on purchases if I tag them and mention them on social media when I post a product where I’ve used their transfers. I am more than happy to do this for the quality of their transfers and the things I can make when I use them, and their customer service as well. Visit their website: https://nufunactivities.com/
Mariposa is sure she can find some way to play with this beast.
