Kelly Waits

Kelly has been wondering if the same wren couple will return to nest in the window box outside the dining room window, even though it was two years ago they visited us.

Kelly, active and loquacious as she is, has the capacity to sit quietly and be completely still for hours at a time, and so she quietly observed the noisy wrens building their nest and settling in, then feeding their noisy young until one day they all fledged at once and disappeared into the trees. She had hours of entertainment watching and listening to them.

They did not return to the windowbox this year, possibly because of Kelly’s vigilance, but they did return to the spruce outside the window. They were so noisy at feeding and fledging that Kelly and all the others were exhausted by all the noise.

Here are a few photos from 2010 when the wrens built their nest where Kelly could watch all the action.

What the wren was doing!
