Friday Four and More: Someone Tossed a Bunch of Cats on My Bed, 2014

After I provided a pretty good show by putting away folded laundry, everyone decides to nap. Their silhouettes on the bed were just too much! It was as if someone had come into the room and tossed a bunch of black cats on my bed. The difficulty was to get them all in one photo on my cell phone, and I didn’t dare run for my DSLR or someone would follow me, so I stood on top of everything I could climb on in my room to get them from above.
These photos are from May 26, 2014, even though it’s July 1! I am combining my post from that day with a few new photos from the set I took in 2014. This is what happens when I take days off and occasionally miss a week and maybe a hospital stay—I knew these photos were coming up and couldn’t wait to share them…again. Two of these were in the original post from then, but there were others I hadn’t used, and an idea I had but didn’t pursue then….

That caption comes from when I’d been trapping and guess what? The mom and all the kittens were black, along with two of her former kittens, then adults, rescued and indoors!

They can have all the cat trees in the world, and their favorite thing is to be wherever I am. Not that I mind!

Eventually they find each other and settle in for a family nap. Giuseppe and Mewsette wake up and look at me. I’d give anything for them to be on the bed to look up at me. I’m so grateful I took all these photos.

Good night!

As for that idea…I was so intrigued by the five black silhouettes scattered across the bed I wanted to design a bed decoration using the idea. Of course, with my love of crochet that started with an afghan, but that’s really complicated and as much as I love them I didn’t even want to make that. I thought of a quilt with big appliques, and that’s still on the table as I free up my sewing machine. But what I had planned then was life-size silhouettes screen-printed on single-weight fabric and draped over the bed, not as a throw but as a decoration. Could also be a tablecloth! Having the screens made was prohibitively expensive then, but not so now when I have the space to make my own screens. I have a few other ideas too, so I may go back to this idea. Stay tuned!
Also, this photo of precious Mewsette was included in the original post from 2014, and both the photo and the text I wrote are still favorites. This was Mewsette, it was just her sweet and loving purrsonality, energetic and ready for fun every moment.
What other photos did I share on this date?
Hi! 2011

Hi! I’m here!
I raced you up the stairs and I beat you to the top!
I ran around and I’ve been waiting for you!
What are we going to do?
This is so exciting!
Are we going to make the bed? And you’ll pet me and kiss me on the forehead?
Are we going in the bathroom where I can play in the tub?
Is Cookie coming too?
Then what do we do?
I can’t wait! I’m so excited!
Mewsette really does race me up the stairs, and she’s so happy she does a wheelie at the top—stands up on her hind legs then does a little hop and runs in a circle. Then she turns around and rubs her whole self against the edge of the wall, and as if she’s not big enough already, she arches her back and stands on her hind toes, and arches her tail. Mousse has a whispery purr and a soft and gentle “rouw?” of a meow and she puts forth all her ample happiness as a greeting to me, offering me her plush forehead to be kissed. Her happiness alone nearly knocks me down the steps. And sometimes we do all the things on the list above.
When I am away from my cats what do I miss? These moments. How wonderful to be so happy for simple things. I’m usually climbing the stairs with a head full of things I have to remember to do. My cats always remind me of the importance of simple things. Perhaps it’s their greatest gift to themselves and to me.

I pictured them, colorful, on a dark background, loose and active, a moving pattern with a slight lighter shade in the background to further isolate them from the floor. Read more and purchase.
