This video has been around since last year, covered on the BBC, about a tabby cat named Della on a farm in Ireland who met newly-hatched baby ducks just in the hours after she gave birth and adopted them. The couple, Ronan and Emma Lally, who own the farm outside the town of Clara had thought it was curtains for the ducklings when the saw the cat where the ducklings had been. Emma saw Della with a duckling in her mouth and picked her up, intending to take the duckling from Della, then Emma’s own instincts as a midwife kicked in as she realized Della was not holding the duckling in a death bite but carrying the duckling. She put Della down and let her go with the duckling, then she and Ronan saw the most amazing thing—ducklings nursing on a cat!
Ducklings find their independence far earlier than kittens, but this didn’t sit too well with Della, who kept putting them back in their box.
Still a bossy mom cat though the ducklings are nearly as large as her, everyone follows Della.
