Daily Sketch: Why is This Bag So Heavy?

I did pick up one of my larger shopping bags from the floor where I’d tossed it, and it didn’t all pick up! Then I saw the tail. Just one of the feline incidents that happen throughout the day.

It was Giuseppe.

What was I sketching a year ago today?

They piled up under the kitty keep-warm lights again, four of them gathering one by one, all tucked together as if they house was freezing and they needed to cuddle together for warmth. After trying to work around them for a while, silly me, I decided they’d be a nice subject for a sketch and instead of working spent my time trying to determine the best way to represent this large pile of blackness with a few highlights here and there.

So here we are, soft pastels on soft pastel paper, Mr. Sunshine, Mimi, Mewsette at the top and then Giuseppe.

They looked like puzzle pieces all neatly fitted together, that’s the only explanation I have for this idea. It’s Mewsette, Mr. Sunshine and Bean on the rocker.

. . . . . . .

And other art to see…

Another good one from The Pet Museum from a collection of illustrations in medieval manuscripts, a very small feline is totally bored with St. Mark and his gospels in disinterested cat is disinterested. I am of the opinion that many of the illustrators of medieval manuscripts had a great imagination and sense of humor

Settling In for a Nap, 2012

Mr. Sunshine settles down on the dishtowels for his bath after a nap. This is quite the process of minute adjustments of hips, butt, tail, paws, ears, whiskers, and interior landscape. He actually sat still long enough for me to sketch.

    • Layla, thank you! I haven’t had much commenting time either, mostly from swapping computers around the house and getting networks to network so I can get work done. All is well now! I will not be at the conference, though. Have a great time!
