Daily Sketch Reprise: At BlogPaws, 2013

Last year when I was at BlogPaws I had the chance to do a few sketches of the animals there!

[No need to] apologize for the quality of these sketches—photographing a pencil sketch on white paper is always a challenge, even with natural light and a flash. Typically I scan my sketches which lights them more evenly and captures more detail, so when I get home I’ll rescan them. And so I scanned them and replaced them when I got home!

But these are again Disco and Brighton of Curlz and Swirlz, and a dog named Oliver. I enjoyed the opportunity to sketch cats with faces and body types so different from what I’m accustomed to. Disco’s huge papery ears looked too big at first, then I kept working them larger, and his eyes nearly reach all the way to his cheek bones, and the wrinkles in his forehead added extra interest where there would normally be fur on this Sphynx.

NOTE: I replaced the original dark and discolored photos of the sketches with scans on May 19 when I got home.

Brighton’s extreme nose and slender build make him look so sculptural.

And it’s nice to experiment with the shape of a dog named Oliver.
