Daily Sketch: Mousie in My Shoe, What Am I To Do?

Mr. Sunshine was proud to come to my rescue and very pleased with himself that the entire time he kept close watch over the mousie, it never moved once.
He doesn’t know I know he put the mousie in my shoe. That’s okay.

What else was I sketching on this date?

Deep in Sleep, 2013

I just sketched this, as the light was fading. I’d been watching Mewsette and Bean napping in the box for hours like two big fluffy black muffs and I was about to call it a night and post something else when I turned to look at them from the landing, their two shapes indistinct with deepest shadows, warm midtones and blue highlights flowing in from the evening sky far above them outside the window, the green tabletop muted in the dusk.
It’s in soft pastel on pastello paper, and really a lot of it is done with my fingers, just scratching some pastel on the paper then pushing it around with my fingertips and the sides and heel of my hands, letting the parts of my hand shape the color. The only disappointing thing about this scan is that the paper is quite dark green. I will photograph tomorrow…
Under the Kitchen Light, 2013

Mewsette washes Giuseppe’s face as Mr. Sunshine washes his belly after dinner this evening, something so familiar to me. They aren’t completely black cats here, but you’ll just have to take my word for it! I’d kind of intended something else for Black Cat Appreciation Day, but this is what they gave me.

Out the Window, 2012

Giuseppe peers over the window ledge, likely at the blue jay I hear talking somewhere on the deck roof. Yellow morning sun streams into the back yard and onto Giuseppe as the trees are still in shadow. Morning.
This is done in chalk pastel on multi-media drawing paper.

I can not count how many mousies and other toys I’ve jammed with my toes into my shoes!
How conveniently we leave them a hiding place for their mousies, MamaLisa!
One time, my husband was trying to put on his shoes. One shoe went on okay, but the other shoe had an obstruction. It was a mousie stuffed all the way to the toe! We had a good laugh.
Diane, shoes are a prime place for mousie toys to hide–but I’ve yet to find a feline who admitted putting them in there!
We think the mousie should be given a good whap.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Hannah and Lucy, the mousie was indeed soundly reprimanded!
