I’m working on a fairly large landscape that is mainly greens. Mewsette is sleeping on my chair since I’m standing at my easel. She is sufficiently plushy that I decided to do today’s sketch with just the pastel that I had on my fingers, as I did in “Fingerprint Cat”, just brushing my fingers against the paper in different ways to capture the shape of what I was drawing. This obviously produces a soft line, just right for Mewsette.
For her nose I used the end of my pinkie finger, then changed to the flat of my middle finger to cover the paper for her forehead. I used other fingers for her paws and tail and along her back, then turned my fingers on their sides to get the darker, more defined areas. I thought I’d add some highlights so I used my white charcoal pencil to finish.
We’ll note for posterity that I dated the sketch incorrectly. Give me an extra day off and I’m lost.
. . . . . . .
What else was I sketching on this date?
Hot Kitty on a Hot Day, 2012
We’ve all been pretty good sports about it, but Jelly Bean was positively glowing with misery late this afternoon, gazing out the front door to the birdbath, which was dry again already, and no birds at the feeder. Don’t worry little guy, this won’t last forever!
And I’ve had sweaty palms, difficult to hold pens, and not very good for my pastels and charcoal, which don’t like to get wet. Watercolor seemed like the perfect choice.
