Daily Photo: Mixing It Up With Mr. Sunshine

black kitten and black cat
Smokie is happy to be snoopervising me from the table, except for one thing…

Smokie was happy enough on my work table snoopervising me, but you can see on his little face that he’s thinking how much better it would all be if he could be snoozing in the basket.

The problem was that Mr. Sunshine was in the basket.

I thought nothing of it. If a kitten was going to try to oust one of the adult ninjas from happily napping in a basket, Mr. Sunshine is decidedly not the one to choose. He will get his basket back. It might not be pretty. Surely Smokie knew his fur brothers better than to try that.

Apparently not. Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement, heard a scuffle, and before I knew it Smokie was in the basket. Mr. Sunshine was in deep consideration. Things were going to change.

Mr. Sunshine considers his next move.

Any other cat would just go off and find another place to nap. But not Mr. Sunshine. Below is a little slide show of how things turned out. I’m sure Smokie will reconsider mixing it up with Mr. Sunshine at any other time. No kittens were harmed in the process.

What other photos have I posted on or around this date? (I’ve missed a few days of this!)

Puzzle This One Out, 2012

Puzzle this one out.

Oh, no, two black cats putting their heads together and “dreaming” something up! Ears and paws and noses, it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. But sometimes these kitties are really just one big lump of black cat.

Don’t know how they ended up this way, but probably they were bathing each other and fell asleep. It’s Giuseppe and Mewsette, likely suspects for communal bathing. I’ve been waiting for someone to do this again since Mewsette’s Heart-shaped Bed where it was Giuseppe and Mr. Sunshine head to head with Mewsette on the top.

Laundry Day Again, 2012

Mr. Sunshine turns on the charm.

This photo is less about the laundry and more about Mr. Sunshine’s well-practiced beseeching head-tilt. He knows what it does to me, and he uses it as often as possible. I fall for it every time.

Giuseppe Does Windows, 2012

Giuseppe does windows–while he sings.

So what is happening here—is Giuseppe signaling the squirrel or worshipping the rising sun? A variation on the Japanese Maneki-Neko? Surely he’s not welcoming the despised tabby cat with white paws. No, as his Mama Mimi and Mewsette look on, Giuseppe is cleaning the window.

Several of my cats through the years have done this—virgorously wiped a window with one or both paws, diligently leaning into it with first the right paw, then the left, and sometimes furiously pedaling with both paws while sitting on their haunches. Stanley cleaned the window he was looking out of each morning as I left for work. Nikka cleaned each window as she made the rounds and looked out of it. Cookie, always original, cleaned alternate shiny surfaces, like tabletops and my glass-topped light box for artwork.

Giuseppe adds a new twist by singing as he works, nope, now measly whistling for this opera star, Giuseppe Basil Verdi entertains with an entire aria in his fine castrato tenor. Yes, a video is a must for anyone to enjoy this display.

Beware the Shark Ear, 2012

Beware the shark ear!

Beware the shark ear, Mewsette! Turn on the the theme from “Jaws”, Giuseppe is circling the tub trying to determine the best angle of attack.

Even clever cats sometimes forget about their ears when lurking just below the surface.
