Daily Photo: Contemplative Basil

A contemplative Basil falls asleep in the sun as he watches whatever is happening out in the back yard. I love his big soft paws.
What catches his eye? Possibly a mourning dove on the deck roof. Possibly another cat on the next street over. I couldn’t see anything different out there, but then, I’m not a cat with Basil’s superpowers.

Am I keeping you awake, Basil? Shall I go away with my big black toy? You are so handsome. I will pet you before I go. There are more photos of Basil napping and looking soft and fluffy from previous years on this date below too.

Falling Asleep, 2017

Basil is overtaken by warm sunshine angling in the window, and soon his nose will continue dropping down until it’s pressed onto the cabinet. That’s a really good nap.
And you’ll see some memorable photos of Basil napping in the yellow basket from two years ago, below!

From Instagram
From last night, “They are always happy to let me know it’s dinnertime by getting in my way.” From the front, Giuseppe, Mimi, Sunshine and Jelly Bean in the back.

From today, “Bean is king of the stack of boxes and bins (there is another bin under these, and it’s all on a table, so Beanie Boy is really supreme). Adding height for cats the homemade way.”

A Tisket, A Tasket, Basil Got A Yellow Basket, 2015

Basil must have thought this was his get-well gift since he owned it from the day it came into the house, which was the day I was running errands after I’d brought him home and saw it…atop someone’s trash pile. I sprayed it down and rinsed it in the basement and let it air dry, then brought it up to the magic basket spot, and Basil was immediately IN THE BASKET, looking totally cute, big, long, white whisker and all.

But especially his glowing amber eyes! We’ve had some glowing sunny days since we’ve had the basket, and I’ve hardly photographed anything but Basil and his amber eyes in the basket! I have a selection here, and I’ll be featuring others as time goes on. Today, I finally got the photo I’d first seen of him with his round eyes looking over the edge of the basket and missed the first time around. That’s the one at the top. My second favorite is below.

Basil has been feeling splendid since last week. The steroid shot did its trick and he’s back to being his silly self again, showing off his belly in the basket and looking irresistible. And judging by his activity level and his positions in the basket, I don’t think he’s feeling any breathing distress at all.

He does like his belly rubs at times like this too!

And then he likes to relax. He’s taken some nice long afternoon naps in the basket, and he’s been leaving the evening shift for other kitties to try it out. I’m trying my best to photograph them, and I’ll share those soon.
In the meantime, here’s a lovely photo of Basil from last November 16, when he was just beginning to develop his full coat and was losing his kitten face and looking more adult. Isn’t he beautiful?
