Creating With Cats: Mr. Sunshine’s Dishtowels!
Mr. Sunshine is featured in these two designs, towels are $10.00 each and will help to pay his surgery costs.
I included this in yesterday’s Marketplace post and decided to pull it out and post the dishtowels solo. I’m printing more today in preparation for tomorrow’s farmers market (though rain is forecast!), and because dishtowels are popular, and these two designs out of my set of four turn out to be the most popular, why not? Every sale will help Mr. Sunshine and me reach our deadline for his surgery.
What do people like so much about these two designs? “Yeah, that’s what our Buttons looks like when she gives us the side-eye, no, I’m not moving off your stuff,” a young couple agreed as they bought a couple of each. Yup, that’s pretty much what he’s telling me in these two daily sketches from 2012 and 2014.
Mr. Sunshine’s taciturn expression, the thing that makes him unique among his more emotive siblings. He will be happy to hear there are more like him out there. Or maybe he won’t, the unchanging expression makes it hard to tell.
About the dishtowels
I purchase the 20″ x 26″ Tekla dishtowels at IKEA and imprint the sketches of my fine felines interacting with my dishtowels with a fabric transfer trimmed down to the image. The towels also have one vertical red stripe about one inch from each edge. The towels themselves are 100% cotton and very soft and absorbent.
Each design began as a marker sketch of my actual black cats interacting with my dishtowels in the kitchen. My series of daily sketches over three years were done from life to capture their activity as it happened. When I realized I had several bright and colorful marker sketches of my cats and my dishtowels I immediately decided they were a set and I should somehow print the images on dishtowels. You can also purchase them individually, and you can purchase them right here!
Lounging on the Dishtowels
They were clean, but I didn’t fold them fast enough. Mr. Sunshine is very pleased with his ingenuity. He is also daring me to move him.
Not Blue Stripes
Apparently Mr. Sunshine doesn’t care for the dishtowel with blue stripes. He scrunched it up and kneaded it as best he could, and it still isn’t right.
