Dona Nobis Pacem 2012

blog for peace
Dona Nobis Pacem.

Today is the day to blog for peace, and here is my design.

In place of the globe image I’ve used one of my daily sketches which, as soon as I finished it, vaguely resembled a globe although it was actually Giuseppe sleeping on a chair. I named it “World Cat”. What could be more peaceful than a happily resting cat in the classic feline sleeping pose, also the pose of many of the world’s animals–curled in a  circle, nose on the tail.

The background is a starry background I created for a website and have also used in a few print designs.

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.

With God as our father, brothers all are we.

Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,

Let this be the moment now

With every step I take may this be my solemn vow

To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

I believe that to meet the challenges of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility.
Each of us must learn to work not just for oneself, one’s own family or nation, but for the benefit of all humankind.
Universal responsibility is the key to human survival. It is the best foundation for world peace.

  • Very powerful…they say One cannot gaze upon a sleeping cat and remain tense…Peace. I loved the Dollar Tree story, too, and got a little lump in my throat also…

    • Sharon, thanks so much! You’re right, it does look like a Christmas card. Yes, I do believe animals make us peaceful, just by their unconditional love–we don’t need to worry.
