Watching Chickadees

Lots of little birds are fledging at this time of the year, and after we filled the feeder and added a suet cake this morning a tiny flock of busy chickadees descended on them, the parents busily pulling seeds from the feeder and suet from the cake while baby chickadees clung to lilac branches, cheeping frantically and flapping their wings in warp speed. There hasn’t been a show this good on CAT TV since, well, probably yesterday when we were descended upon by sparrow parents and babies who succeeded in cleaning out the feeder.
At one point or another each of the cats, and several together in groups, sat looking up out the window in complete alertness. The best photo of the lot was of JB, unmoving, whiskers fanned and whisker pad all in a bunch, white brushes in his ears alight in morning sun. He is the image of rapt attention.
