My Custom Pet Memorial Votive Included in Conscious Cat Best Products of 2021
I’m thrilled that Ingrid King has included my Custom Pet Memorial Votives in her list of Best Cat Products of 2021. I hope it helps me to share this product that is so meaningful to me with even more people.
I made a votive as a gift to Ingrid when she lost her precious Ruby, way back when I was just working it out and dimly thinking of selling them as a product, but also thinking I might rather just keep them as a personal gift to friends and not commercialize them. In part, it was Ingrid’s reaction to her votive followed by a few other friends that encouraged me to offer the votives to others.
From the time I started painting my portraits and realized that many of them would be memorials as I began meeting people in the rawness of grief over the loss of their precious animal companion, I have appreciated, and took very seriously, the role I could play helping ease the loss of a pet. I designed my original set of sympathy cards in 2009 and have added to them since then. Once I began creating my own handmade products to sell, including the votives, this idea opened up for me immediately. Since then so have other custom memorial ideas as well as other types of pet memorial items, but none are as special to me as the votive, because of its transformation from a simple glass vase to a lighted, seemingly animated, memorial space and moment.
