Marketplace: Ceramic Tiles With Beautiful Cats
Kitties on beds and behind plants, bathing, napping, in the garden, enjoying the sun! My feline art on ceramic tiles.
I made these with the same upcycled pale yellow 4″ x 4″ ceramic wall tiles, printing my artwork to fit, applying cork to the back and giving it a good coating of water-resistant finish. I wouldn’t soak them for the sake of the cork, but you can spill your tea all over them and wash it all off.
I have so much artwork that choosing designs for products can be confusing so I organize images into sets. That’s my way of organizing them to be sure I have a variety of designs, and so I can inventory more easily. Even though these tiles are displayed in sets you can buy them individually.
Full details on price, quantity discounts and availability is at the bottom of this post. As you browse, note that some of the designs are sold out; in this case you won’t see that tile’s design name in the set’s drop down list of designs. I have finally run out of the lovely pale yellow tiles so any new ones I might make will not have the same background color.
Cats and Beds Tiles

Of course, Sienna and Mariposa in their classic poses were part of the first run, but I have sooooo many paintings and sketches of cat on or around beds. Seeing the highly detailed style in the girls’ tiles I wanted to match the same style and level of detail and color. In the lower left is “Three Tri-color Girls Settling Down for a Nap” and in the lower right is “Waiting for Mom,” both similarly detailed, complex and colorful. “Waiting for Mom” with Fawn under the bed instead of on it is the reason why this set isn’t “Cats on Beds.” Of course, now I want to make another set of the less-detailed cats and beds art I’ve done, but I’ll work on a few other things first.

Cats at Sunny Windows Tiles

This set began with just “Winter Afternoon Nap” in the upper left, but I knew I had plenty of cats at sunny windows! A cat at a sunny window inspired my first “successful” drawing, feline or otherwise, one I visualized from a photo I took of one of my Sally and then drew in pencil, on a sunny windowsill. It’s been a favorite pose since then for any media and photographs. Again, to make a set I wanted similarly styled, detailed and colorful paintings and added “Peach Begonias,” “Spring Morning,” and “A Warm Bath.”

Cute Kitties Tiles

This set began with “Lucy the Most Exceptional Kitten,” top left. I work in many styles but sometimes I have one of a kind, so this set doesn’t match for style or color or theme, but it does match for patterns made from multiple kitties or patterns in the illustration—and all the kitties are cute, “Inscrutable Cats,” “Mewsette on the Afghan,” and “22 Cats.” Given enough time, I’ll probably make more sets out of this one.

Below are the designs I already had in sets of four. They were all featured in a previous post but here they are again for convenience.

Visit Cats and Flowers: Gardens Tiles and Cats and Flowers: Vases Tiles

Cats and Flowers tiles and more designs, I have all new tiles to share, and not just newly made, but made differently from what I’ve been doing over the past five years that I’ve been making tiles. My new tiles are made on upcycled ceramic wall tiles, and they look fantastic.
I did like the polymer clay tiles because they were just about indestructible. But it’s plastic, and we have enough of that around already. Plus, the price has doubled since I began to use it, and tiles are nice but I don’t think I want to charge more than $10.00 for one tile!

Brushy Baths Tiles

I’ve been considering this for a while because I’ve had these pale yellow ceramic wall tiles for…years, just waiting for me to do something with them. Wall tiles aren’t intended for everyday use and they can be a little fragile so I worked my way through some possibilities and found a few ways to reinforce them and make them more durable: a vinyl label with the image, an encasing gloss finish, and a piece of cork on the bottom. They can handle everyday use, though if they hit the floor, well, I can’t guarantee that!

Cats After van Gogh Tiles

I organized the designs into sets because customers often look for tiles in a similar theme, style, palette, etc., and organizing them that way helps me keep them organized too.

Sunny Ink and Watercolor Tiles

I offer these designs on note cards and small keepsakes and even suncatchers so why not tiles? They were a natural. Unfortunately, they don’t photograph well.

I have a few additional sets I’d like to see as well, so off to make more!
About Ordering
I had always posted the tiles individually, but I’m now posting them in sets. That’s how I usually plan them because I’m always thinking in sets of four, but you can still purchase individual tiles in that set. That way you can also see similar designs together, and see all the designs even if one or more is not in stock.
- The name of each set of tiles above the photo is a link to that set on Portraits of Animals.
- Instead of listing each tile separately I have each set of tiles in its own product post.
- Inside the post for each set is where you’ll find each of the individual tiles listed.
Some tiles have a note above the product shopping cart.
- I usually make replacements in sets as soon as I can until I run out of those particular tiles (same color, size, style, etc.).
- Because the finish on the tiles takes several days to cure you may see a “ready to ship ” date.
- If the tile will no longer be available on that same color/size/style of tile I will note that it is discountinued.
And a set of discounts for buying more than one:
One tile is $15.00
Two tiles $25.00: use the code 2TILES25.
Three tiles $35.00: use the code 3TILES35.
Four tiles $45.00: use the code 4TILES45.
Take a look at them and see if there is one or more that you can’t live without!

And a mini product review and endorsement!
When I make tiles I want them to be used! Don’t worry about setting down your coffee cup! Spill that tea! Without cracks in the tile or stains on the surface. I wanted to be sure I had a solid coating on the surface that would not only protect the artwork and be washable but would also help to strengthen the surface of the ceramic tile against cracking. I talked to an amazing person @plaidcrafts and gave Mod Podge® Multi—Gloss a try–the finish is dishwasher safe after it’s fully cured but it dries fast enough to use in a few days. I also used it to adhere the cork to the unfinished bottom of the tile.
And you know my care with using non-toxic products in my art and craft, and also buying products made in the USA–this is a non-toxic water-based finish and all their products have been USA-made since 1976. Yes, a mini product review, but after the time spent in working this out I’m happy share what I’ve found.
