Last month when I made the garden flags, I’m not sure how I managed to miss stitching the pocket on the top of this design! But I discovered it getting ready for the farmer’s market last weekend and got them ready to sell there. But that gives me the chance to feature several other things with this unique cat pattern in which you’re sure to find a kitty like yours! Just recently I’ve also made a tote bag with this pattern, and last summer I made accessory bags and masks with this pattern as well. And that’s not the end of it—I have made keepsakes and votives and placemats, and have pillows planned and who knows what else?
About this pattern
This pattern is a collage of all 16 portraits—22 cats in all—included in my Great Rescues Day Book. I’ve painted portraits of pets since 1992 and I’d always wanted to publish them somehow, and since most are rescues I always wanted to share their stories as well, and this came together in Great Rescues. The portraits in this book, collected as a series, won both a Certificate of Excellence and a Muse Medallion in the 2011 Cat Writers’ Association Annual Communication Contest, as well as the 22 Cats Notepaper, which is how this pattern originated.
Current products with this pattern, and a discount
For now I’ve got the three items above: a garden flag, a tote bag, and an accessory bag. I recently sold out of the last mask I had made and I’m holding off until autumn to see if I should make any more. But that gives me the time to make all those pillows I have in mind!
This is your discount is for two current items with this pattern: two flags, two totes, two accessories, OR a tote and a flag, a tote and an accessory, a flag and an accessory, etc., just so it’s two items with this pattern, for $25.00. Your discount code is:
The discount is good through July 29, 2021, because my open house begins July 30 and I will have a different discount then.
22 Cats Garden Flag
My flags are 11″ x 15″ because my largest fabric transfers are 11″ x 17″, then I fold the top over for the pocket. They are printed on only one side, but you can see the design really well from the back anytime during daylight, as you can see below.
They are printed on white cotton twill using a light fabric transfer finished with a “hot peel”, which means I peel the backing off of it within seconds of opening the heat press, leaving minimal plastic coating on the fabric. It leaves a little bit of body but no real stiffness, and never curls from wetness or cold like other fabric transfers. The professional-quality transfer is intended for light fabric so covers the fabric without the feeling of vinyl and holds the art well.
You can find this garden flag here on www.PortraitsOfAnimals.net.
22 Cats Tote Bag
I create my own “fabric” swatch by printing the pattern on medium-weight cotton fabric using a commercial quality fabric transfer and my heat press to ensure even coverage, then stitch up the rest of the bag with black trim, backing and 24″ twill woven handles. Bags may vary slightly in size, but are just about 17″W x 13″H.
You can find this tote bag here on www.PortraitsOfAnimals.net.
22 Cats Accessory Bag
I imprint the design “22 Cats” onto reclaimed linen fabric using a fabric transfer to make the 5″ x 7″ unlined bag, adding a colorful zipper. I can’t always find the deep burnt orange I like so sometimes it’s a brighter orange and sometimes white, black or brown.
You can find this accessory bag here on www.PortraitsOfAnimals.net.
Where to find all the products
You can find these and all my designs in my Handmade Gift Gallery.
The manufacturer of the fabric transfers I use to make these and many other products will give me a discount on purchases if I tag them and mention them on social media when I post a product where I’ve used their transfers. I am more than happy to do this for the quality of their transfers and the things I can make when I use them, and their customer service as well. Visit their website: https://nufunactivities.com/
Join us for an Open House!
In person or virtual, you’re invited to our Summer Open House, July 30 through August 1! You can shop either in person or online, which means if you are nowhere near us you can still choose from all the stuff AND get the 25% discount I always offer at my open house events. For all attendees, I’m reducing it back to the original three days—now that I’m doing vendor events again it’s just too much for me to have a week-long setup at home. But I’ll have things set up in my house as well as my front and back porches and at least one of my tents in the back yard, and for our friends at a distance I’ll photograph or video the setups. Well, weather permitting. Let’s hope I’m not rained out like I was in May!
If you shop in person, I give you a 25% discount on your entire order. If you shop online, you need a discount code. Either way, you need to sign up for my Open House notifications so that I can email you the information, or send a snail mail post card, whichever works best for you.

Marketplace is a feature on The Creative Cat to share the latest coming out of my studio with my readers. Once a week on Thursday I feature something new in my “shop”.
