Guardians of the Stairway

Mewsette and Mimi ask if I’d like to pass through to the upstairs.

Do you think they’ll let me through?

It’s not too often there’s enough sunlight in the stairway to the second floor to photograph black cats, but the sun was bright today and the trees are still bare so the sunlight poured into the window, lighting and warming the narrow space. And, of course, wherever sun is plentiful, so are cats.

When I stepped on the bottom landing to go upstairs, I was confronted with the guardians of the stairway. They would not let me pass until I spent some time playing with them. I knew they were hoping I’d toss at least one bizzy ball up the steps for them, our favorite game, which I did, bringing forth the boys to participate. Soon I had all five cats running up and down the stairs after a series of bizzy balls, then ping pong balls, crackle balls, then a variety of any small toys that were handy. One of these days when I figure out where to set the tripod I’ll video this big game.

  • They remind me of Guardians of the Underworld … “Do you dare journey inward to face your true self … whom we already know?”

Yes, I do hope you video the game of balls on the stairs, Bernadette!

    • Pam, sometimes they give me those expressions! I’m sure they know me better than I’ll know myself. Yes, the ball game! Can’t wait to share it.

  • LOL and if you are anything like me you also have about 500 of various balls lost under all the furnishings!

    • Yes, even when I thought I’d blocked access when I grew tired of rescuing lost toys for crying kitties, I move something and find a ball or a mousie, or it’s in my shoe.
