two cats sleeping on unmade bed
Cookie looks pretty happy with Mewsette near.

From last year on this day…Mewsette was a constant presence with Cookie through her last months last year. I was very comforted that this was so when I couldn’t be with Cookie, and while Cookie was never a snuggler with other cats, only when necessary such as fitting one’s self on my lap, she always cuddled up to Mewsette’s big, soft, quiet presence. Here it was after 3:00 in the afternoon and the bed still wasn’t made, but I would not have disturbed them before I left earlier.

Later, they were both asleep, and I remember looking at their curling shapes, the swirling bed covers, even the twining ivy and thinking what a nice sketch that would be if I would just go and get my drawing materials. But I didn’t want to disturb them and only took a photo.

I always felt good when Mewsette guarded Cookie.
