Featured Daily Sketch(es): Minding Their Own Business and Toe Cleaning, 2012 and 2013

From 2012: Sometimes, this is all we see.
I like the times when they are going about their business without me involved. Jelly Bean is curled, sleeping, at the top of the steps where the sun had been shining, briefly awakened by Mewsette as she climbs the steps and rounds the corner into my bedroom. No faces, no interaction with me, they are just being house cats finding their afternoon nap spots.
From 2026: I agree with what I said above! And when I first sketched this the humor in it went right by me as I admired what a nice use of charcoal it was but my readers pointed that out to me. Thank you! Sometimes I take things too seriously.
And the sketch below, on the same date a year later, just seemed to coordinate.

Toe Cleaning, 2013

From 2013: Jelly Bean ceremoniously settled down on my desk right in front of me and had a complete and energetic bath. I tried to get work done despite the fact he was bathing on my paperwork and pretty completely occupying my desk, but that being fruitless I got my sketchpad and did a sketch. I fully expected him to get up and leave—but it was probably only my imagination that he would be trying to get in the way of me getting anything done.
From 2026: Those were the days! I’m sitting here just remembering times when the little Bean was on my desk just taking care of his business, stopping to look at me with a twinkle in his eye. Then settling down for a nap, which eventually signaled a sibling or two to join him, and suddenly my desk was taken over by black cats.
Daily Sketches 2011 to 2015
I think I accomplished what I'd set out to do three years ago today, a challenge to me and entertainment and enjoyment for you: to create a quick sketch of my cats each day as a way to practice and experiment, and present the sketch on that day with no editing, no waiting, no excuses, just to do the sketch and share it.

Minding their own business was the theme of my cats when we had several.
We could also say “ignoring the human” but we don’t want our cats to be offended by our judgement.
