Featured Daily Sketch: Kitty Spoons, 2013

From 2013: A little number from the nap sequence today, Jelly Bean tucked into Mewsette’s curve, or Mewsette settled around Bean. Either way, they are definitely spooning in the afternoon.

The lighting in my bedroom has so many subtle colors because most of it is reflected off something else—the green of the ivy on the tree, the yellow of my neighbor’s house, the blue of the sky, even. In this case, both the white bedspread and the black cats reflect and absorb all colors, but in my room in the afternoon, it’s primarily a pale green with yellow.

Today it was oil pastels for the first time in a while.

From 2026: This sketch looks oddly exaggerated in shapes and colors but it’s really what Mewsette and Bean looked like. And all those colors! Working the oil pastels for both blended colors and texture was something that worked itself out as I painted with the pastels. I really love the whole series of “Cats After van Gogh”.

Daily Sketches 2011 to 2015

I think I accomplished what I'd set out to do three years ago today, a challenge to me and entertainment and enjoyment for you: to create a quick sketch of my cats each day as a way to practice and experiment, and present the sketch on that day with no editing, no waiting, no excuses, just to do the sketch and share it.
