I’m just remembering how happy Emeraude, one of my 2013 senior hospice fosters, was that autumn, spending afternoons on her bathroom windowsill.

We all enjoyed this lovely warm November afternoon with the windows open, all the leaves on the maple trees bright yellow and falling thickly in the breeze. Emeraude spent some time in her favorite place as well. I enjoy sketching her on the windowsill, and that’s because she loves it so much, you can feel it when you’re near her.

The first daily sketch I did of her was on this windowsill in August, all the trees deeply green outside. So I told her now it’s our goal to have four seasons with Emeraude, next will be a winter pastel of her on her windowsill, and then a spring view. She may be 19, but she’s enjoying each day to the fullest.

You can read more about Emeraude, my 19-year-old foster kitty, who spent her last months with us in 2013-2014. She began her next life on February 2, 2014.

2025: I never followed through with the other two seasons of Emeraude’s afternoons on the windowsill though I remember a winter painting idea since she was with us until February, and a spring idea wasn’t too difficult to visualize. She was diagnosed with advanced lymphatic luekemia and with treatment she lived to the beginning of February, 2014. That month I began volunteering at Homeless Cat Management Team’s monthly TNR clinics along with transporting cats around in between clinics, helping others with their TNR projects and then working my own TNR more regularly once I got a trap or two. In June, Kennedy joined us. Maybe someday I’ll finish all these ideas.

Daily Sketches 2011 to 2015

I think I accomplished what I'd set out to do three years ago today, a challenge to me and entertainment and enjoyment for you: to create a quick sketch of my cats each day as a way to practice and experiment, and present the sketch on that day with no editing, no waiting, no excuses, just to do the sketch and share it.

I checked to see if I have the art for these two but I didn’t find it, though I have no record of the sale of either or both. However, I could have used them as a benefit somehow, either auctioning the artwork for her care or donating the artwork to benefit an animal shelter. I don’t have them listed on my website but you can contact me about prints.

Beautiful paintings. How kind of you to have cared for this sweet girl. XO

    • Thanks, Ellen. After we lost her fur sibling in August she was quietly so happy in her space. I had the feeling he had overshadowed her all her life. Mimi and the siblings loved her too.

    • Thanks, it’s so simple but always one of my favorites.
