Featured Daily Sketch: Cat-eating Bag, 2014

From 2014: Mr. Sunshine got out safely, but not before I sketched him. It was another case of pulling artwork out of the bag to put away and leaving it standing in place there was immediately a cat in it, as if the cat had been under the art. He crouched in the bag, being secretive, but I knew he’d make an appearance. I sketched the bag first and waited for him to appear and chose a rather desperate-looking pose.

From 2017: What do you think?

I have quite the collection of sketches of kitties interacting with bags. Does this look like a set of cards or a set of…something…to you?

Let me know what you think!

From 2026: I think I had a great idea back in 2017. Looks like note cards to me! I also love this sketch for many reasons. I like the way I drew the bag, simple, but enough detail to see both shadows and different areas of color or tone, the left side rounded outward, the right side bending in to the fold, just like they do. And Mr. Sunshine, not quite tall enough to look over the edge of the bag without stretching.

Daily Sketches 2011 to 2015

I think I accomplished what I'd set out to do three years ago today, a challenge to me and entertainment and enjoyment for you: to create a quick sketch of my cats each day as a way to practice and experiment, and present the sketch on that day with no editing, no waiting, no excuses, just to do the sketch and share it.
