Daily Sketch: Watching Me Sketch

JB again. I started out sketching him at his bath, convenient because he sat himself down right in front of me, between me and the computer monitor, and began to wash his face.

But as soon as the charcoal pencil began making enticing little scratching sounds on the paper, kind of like the sort of noises a little mousie would make when it’s in the basement, JB gave up with the bath and turned his full attention to my pencil. Yes, he did take a few swats at it as I was sketching, and as he did his expression grew much more intense, resulting in this glowering face. Imagine the Bean with a glowering face! But I love it when the whisker pads get all square when they push all their whiskers forward. Then Giuseppe came running through, literally between me and JB, and coaxed him off to wrestle.

This sketch is also in charcoal pencil, and even when the sketch was of a morning bath I wanted the lines to be strong and emphatic, and I like the blackness and thickness of this particular charcoal.
