Daily Sketch Reprise: Sunshine in Colors, 2012

Mr. Sunshine sat on the kitchen stool taking in the warm morning light from the back door and just a little of the cool reflected light from the dining room window. It all added up to an interesting mix of colors!

I used one of the new kids’ sets of oil pastels which are thinner than the usual to accommodate a child’s hand, but I got accustomed to that and was happy to see they were all of equal consistency and softness, and the colors did not disappoint. I’m still working through my van Gogh impressionism, though here I’ve used a color he would not have, the red violet; I’ve never seen it in any of his paintings.

I actually drew this Sunday (day before yesterday), and I’m getting caught up with things that didn’t get done in favor of gardening and work on my computer, so there are two sketches tonight, since there hasn’t been one at all for a few days!

This sketch is one of the Cats After van Gogh series.

. . . . . . .

What else was I sketching on this date?

I tossed my apron on my work table, so of course it became a cat bed. Mimi settled down in her usual perfectly symmetrical manner, then began sagging here and there until she was fully on her side. I began to sketch her in mid-sag, when she still had one hind leg underneath her and one stretched out at her side as she began listing to the left.

No sketching the new cats yet, they need their beauty sleep.
