Daily Sketch Reprise: Sunny Windowsill, 2013

The sun is so bright at this windowsill, and then, of course, they are black, and the cats who sit there are nearly always silhouettes, which I enjoy experimenting with. I don’t even mind that my marker isn’t as juicy as it could be; I used its relative dark and light abilities as part of the sketch, since Mimi and Bean aren’t completely silhouetted but have direct and reflected highlights on them. Definitely should pick up a juicer black brush marker, though.
Looking at this sketch in 2017, I think I appreciate even more how it turned out. I like the line quality on the figures and objects, I like how I filled them as well, and I really like the leaves outside the window. All of those things are easy to over do, to try to refine them but just work them too much. I like it.
I did pick up a few juicier black markers too.

Original, Print or Greeting Card from Portraits of Animals

Mimi enjoys her daily sunbath while Mewsette watches the birds from my studio window on the second floor.
One more experiment with this brush pen, partly just because it was there. I love it when the cats are partly lit by sunshine, and dramatically. Here it pours in the window from nearly directly above, just enough to highlight them where they are near the window but leaving the rest in silhouette. Find it on Portraits of Animals or purchase a print or card below.
