Daily Sketch Reprise: Lounging on the Dishtowels
They were clean, but I didn’t fold them fast enough. Mr. Sunshine is very pleased with his ingenuity. He is also daring me to move him. I think I’d rather sketch what I see.
. . . . . . .
Pink and Green, 2013
Giuseppe in front and Mewsette behind, the two are hanging in the kitchen under the ceiling fan after dinner. I guess they are cuddling because they love each other, because it’s too hot to cuddle. But even though it’s hot and they are napping, they are still moving just a bit, adjusting, looking sleepily around. I like to catch their ears when they are falling asleep, swiveling around.
Perhaps I’m thinking watermelons in this heat—I certainly was craving some nice cool watermelon yesterday, and, subliminally, perhaps even their elongated shapes suggested it too. Funny how even food cravings can influence my choice of subject, style and color…
Really need some new brush markers now, I think.
heat is over, and what better to celebrate than a communal bath? Mewsette cleans the necessary areas while Giuseppe takes a break from washing himself to turn and wash Bean’s face. This was after Mewsette washed his face, and before she washed…you know what.
The activity went on, and on, and on until they all settled down for a nap together and I could have done a completely new and different sketch each minute.

Mimi enjoys her daily sunbath while Mewsette watches the birds from my studio window on the second floor.
One more experiment with this brush pen, partly just because it was there. I love it when the cats are partly lit by sunshine, and dramatically. Here it pours in the window from nearly directly above, just enough to highlight them where they are near the window but leaving the rest in silhouette. Find it on Portraits of Animals.
