Daily Sketch: Bird!

charcoal sketch of three cats
“Bird!”, charcoal pencil 7.5″ x 6″ © Bernadette E. Kazmarski

Jelly Bean, Mimi and Mewsette sit perfectly still as a bird comes to visit the basin outside the door, barely a foot away.

Another morning view of them looking out the basement door. One of my anodized aluminum tubs is right there, and this year has been holding rainwater instead of draining, which was horrible for the tomatoes but great for the cats to have an active water feature right there. Birds regularly perch on the edge and drink, and little critters, like those squeaky little chipmunks, run around the edge, not to mention all the butterflies and other insects that visit. Now that’s environmental enrichment! Like your own private kitty theater!

And my environmental enrichment as well! After I ride my exercise bicycle and take care of the laundry, I clean the litterboxes under the steps, and I saw this as I stood up from that.  Truly a rest for the eyes. Sketchpad and pencils at the ready, drawn from life in compressed charcoal pencil on multi-media paper, no reference photos.

Wee noes da tabbees o’ trout towne won’t like dis!
