Daily Photo: Warm

two black cats in the sun
Basil and Bella in warm sun.

We had a sunny day, though cold, but everyone took advantage of whatever sunpuddles they could find. Basil and Bella still cuddle, and they looked so sweet and content I just wanted to remember the moment.

Some intense birdwatching on this #CatTV program. All five little rescues were ready to climb out the window — Bella, Basil, Hamlet, Sienna and Mariposa!

They saw my linguine and had to have one. A little lunchtime feline enrichment. Mr. Sunshine is not known for his patience, but he and Mariposa took turns. Her white mittens and concentration crack me up.

Kitchen Kitty, 2019

Sleepy Mariposa
Sleepy Mariposa

Mariposa has been inhabiting the kitchen lately, when she’s not running roughshod on all the toys in the house, finding happy little spots that fit her little self purrfectly, where she is warm and feels safe. I know she has a great awareness of her cuteness, or how could she have posed just like this when I came up out of the basement and saw her tucked neatly at the end of the bean counter, leaning up against the cookbook shelves? It’s warm and she is sleepy, but not too sleepy to pose for the camera.

I think there is snow on me. What happened to my back yard?

Mariposa and I took some time to transplant last year’s geraniums and begonias and freshen up the kitchen windowsill. I grabbed a bucket of compost when the weather was warm and they’ll be sprouting new leaves and blooming in no time. I’m so glad Mariposa could take the time from her busy schedule of stalking and killing tiny mice in the kitchen (obviously very important), carefully observing birds and wildlife, and running up and down the basement steps, to make sure I had done things properly.

Really Relaxed, 2018
Hamlet is pretty relaxed.
Hamlet is pretty relaxed.

Hamlet is having an excessively good nap in his favorite basket. He gets into some pretty interesting positions, and he’s so completely sweet when he’s on his back with his legs in the air.

Who, me?

Not me.

Just my toes.

Giuseppe and Basil

Reviewing all these sweet photos of Giuseppe and Basil from two years ago when Basil was finally feeling pretty confident, and then seeing this one from today, reminds me how Basil still likes to cuddle with his mentor now and then, and Giuseppe doesn’t mind.

It’s a sweet memory of the very first time two formerly feral fosters braved the first floor of the house. Bella and Basil, respectively, are finally having some time on the first floor after thoroughly inspecting the second floor. Read more and purchase.
