Hmmm, three black cats putting their heads together, should I worry? What do you suppose they’re discussing? Or purr-haps they are just getting literal “face time” with mom. It’s Giuseppe and Sunshine cradling their little mama Mimi, in fact they where cuddling face to face when she decided she wanted some time with her kids, who she finds make warm and comfortable beds.
They might also be enjoying some “kitten-less” time…

Cat and Leaves and Shadows, 2013
Sometimes the best cat photos aren’t photos of cats at all. I love to capture cat shadows, and I can often depend on one from the bathroom window onto the bathroom door. They always feel so contemplative though they are constantly changing either because the breeze is blowing the leaves and twigs or the sun is constantly moving, or Jelly Bean sees something he needs to view a little more closely. While at one time they were just the cat and the window, as the pussy willow just outside and the maples in my neighbor’s yard have grown the shadows of leaves and twigs add to the delicate impermanence of a constantly changing composition. Kind of like life.
Take a look at a few other cat shadows, though I know there are more—I need to check my categorizing for this.

Brotherly Love, 2012
Jelly Bean was trying to quietly enjoy the last autumn afternoon by the window yesterday when Giuseppe came along and challenged him to a wrestling match. Typical of these two, it was half brotherly bath and all in fun.
I videotaped them over the course of a half hour in little clips and made another video with music; I eliminated the ambient sound from the video clips, but you can still hear some static and scratches behind the music. You can watch it below or click the link to watch it on YouTube.

Waiting for the Mousie, 2011
There are actually five black cats in this photo, and they are all in my studio taking turns keeping watch because there is apparently a little mousie in there somewhere. Don’t know how a mousie got the the second floor, but I have an idea, something to do with Mr. Sunshine and a mousie last night. One tiny scratching sound that I can’t even hear, and all ears turn toward the spot from which the sound emanated.
Giuseppe is right by the door, and Jelly Bean is in the distance, the two current guards. In a heap by the door are Mimi in front, Mewsette curled around her and Mr. Sunshine curled around Mewsette. One must preserve one’s energy for the big chase, whenever that might happen.
Later, Mewsette came running down the stairs with the mousie. I’m kind of glad. I feel bad for the mousie trapped in the room without food or water; even if I close the door and put it out the mousie generally does not eat it and I know is often injured beyond the point of sustenance. The room can become unpleasant when mousie fades away, as has happened on more than one occasion when someone runs upstairs with one to hide it in their other stash.
