Daily Photo Reprise: It Rained on Mimi’s Parade, and Other Rainy Escapades

It was raining on Mimi's parade today.
It was raining on Mimi’s parade today.

This is actually from 2013, but it’s been raining for days and Mimi is no happier this year than she was then.

Mimi insists on going outside for even just a few minutes each day, even today, though it was wet, or raining, or pouring most of the day.

Usually we visit the deck and the garden in the morning, filling bird feeders and bird baths and checking the plants—soon we will be harvesting salad greens and green beans. Often we visit in the afternoon as the back yard is my outdoor photo studio as well for artwork and merchandise, and in late afternoon the back yard is bright with light reflected from the sky, the perfect color balance. Mimi will take both opportunities, waiting impatiently as I buckle her collar and clip on her leash. I open the door and let her go, knowing she won’t go far, and a 15-foot leash is trailing her down the steps to the yard. What would I do without a feline supervisor whether in gardening or artistic pursuit?

As today wore on and she saw no moves to go outdoors near late afternoon she really started a meow fest and tried to lead me to the back door, but I wasn’t understanding what she wanted, or so she thought. “Mimi,” I told her, “you can see it’s raining, you don’t want to go out in that!”

“Yow!”

So I suited her up and let her run out the door while I followed with my camera. Off she went and down three steps before she realized it was wet! She ran back up, circled around, then tried it again, as if it might have changed in that split second. Back up she came to tell me something was gravely wrong with her back yard, and stood there to look at it, now and then meowing over shoulder to me to fix it.

I have still not heard the end of it. I do hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow. I can’t take two days of this.

Planting up that basil (see below) this morning with Mimi’s su-purr-vision, even though she highly disapproves of our thoroughly soaked yard. Everyone else, including me, highly disapproves of our thoroughly soaked basement.

And one more that wasn’t on Facebook, but I love when Mimi watches over me from the deck rail. Cookie used to do that. She had also been drinking from the bird bath, but you don’t see her, of course…

Ahh yes..I am hearing the same sob story from my girl Pudgy..She hates being in the rain..she can see that it is raining..but she still insists that she checks it out for herself..I try to tell her that my tomato plants need the rain to make me lots of tomatoes to can this year..I do believe she is trying to tell me that she does not care as she does not get to eat them..Well..forgive me your highness..lol..Such nice pictures Bernadette..I wonder if Basil enjoys the sweet smell of basil as much as I do..I must get to the greenhouse to buy some fresh for Summer and my other herbs too..Love that colorful vintage candle holder on your outside desk..I have one just like it I bought at a local antique mall..they are not easy to find anymore and I got it for a bargain price….

    • Bluemoonalone, right now the sun has finally come out although that does not stop the rain, and Mimi is pacing! Their wishes should come before ours, of course. Basil wasn’t sure what to think, but Mewsette immediately started snacking. Funny you should mention that vintage candle holder–it’s “mid-century”. I went to my customer/friend Judi’s most recent estate sale and it was a capsule of early 1970s style and colors with a smattering of 90s seafoam green and pink. That was a kit you could buy, and I love unique candleholders and lights. Just now in the kitchen I was looking at it and I don’t like it in the daytime because I like the greens and blues and yellows at that table so I can put it elsewhere until I want to use it, but I love it when it’s lit. I could look at it all night!
