Daily Photo: Package Inspectors, 2011

black cat and tortoiseshell cat on box
My package inspectors.

Cookie and Giuseppe were helping me prepare packages in my studio last year.

I have always needed to be supervised by cats, and apparently this is why I’ve always had more than a few. Cookie worked very hard to keep me in line, and especially when I was packing things for mailing she was, literally, “on top of things”.

And on this particular day Giuseppe was convinced we were sending a package to his paramour in Kingston, Ontario, so he was around to supervise, and possibly slip a little green sparkle ball into the box. This package was not headed for Kingston, though, and Giuseppe was disappointed.

At this point in the packaging I needed to tape the box shut, and that would coordinate so well with cat hair. I tried walking away as a distraction until they grew bored with the box and came to see what else I had decided to do. These two were persistent and would not leave the box, meaning I likely had to hold it in mid-air while I taped it shut lest I tape one of them onto it.
