Daily Photo: Morning, and Some New Views

A little gathering in the kitchen.
A little gathering in the kitchen.

Breakfast not to their liking? Actually they liked it a little too much and wanted more. Giuseppe, Mimi and Jelly Bean, with Bella cleverly photobombing. They have all been wonderfully understanding about late meals and my distractions.

Comcast had sent my brother a Samsung tablet when we got his Comcast services last fall, but he never used it. I’m not surprised; he learned to use a computer in his job training classes but never cared for it. I’m kind of happy to have one for events and to use around the house, but it takes lousy photos. These four look great no matter what you do though!

A few more similar from about that time to catch you up with other things we’ve been doing.

Getting used to the new view. No more speckly sunshine at the basement door, but the birds are back. I’m pretty sure the little bunny would be okay. I awoke at 5:20 today to the sound of snap crackle pop that sounded like another big branch going but the only thing left is the main trunk! Turned out to be one of the big branches on the ground settling under its own weight. Whew. Until it’s all cleaned up, I know we’ll be watching and waiting.

The Watchers
The Watchers

The Watchers. Basil, Bella, Hamlet, neatly spaced at the basement door, raptly watching a great new station on Backyard Wildlife TV, this morning’s program featuring one busy song sparrow foraging for breakfast. Obviously the program deserves an E-Meowy to pass muster with three rescued formerly feral cats who can’t be fooled by shoddy productions.

R.I.P. Tree. I hope you had many happy rings. — Bernadette, will you keep the trunk for wildlife habitat?

    • Meg, if it was in my yard instead of on the edge, on a slope, I would definitely cut it at a level where I could make a table from it, but it had no branches lower than about 20 feet. To say it’s left a big hole in my yard is an understatement–big old trees take up their share of space in the landscape. On the other hand, my side yard is sunny as it was when I moved in and built my bioswale and cottage garden, and now I can renew that. It’s a time for renewal.
