Daily Photo: Cuddling

Now that’s a heap of black fur. Before it got too hot Bean and Giuseppe were in one of their favorite positions, tucked into each other and sleeping. They can often be found atop the wardrobe on the landing.

Mimi is having a deep appreciation of shade on a humid morning, already hot, while the human runs around her, hanging out clothes, tending plants and photographing spiders.

What other photos did I feature on this date?

Lakota and Emeraude, 2013
Lakota Front and Center

Confusing? Lakota was on the windowsill enjoying the sun, and I captured his profile in the mirror angled in the corner above the sink. Look at those crazy old man whiskers. He’s very plushy, and his fur is feeling very good, especially now that he’s decided he likes brushing.
Meanwhile…look, it’s a Peeping Bean!

Bean spends plenty of time looking longingly in the room through the openings around the bi-fold door.
That is, when he’s not up on the wardrobe, trying to unlatch the hook and eye that holds the door shut. But he’s always nice. He is as nice as a kitty can be. Jelly Bean has figured out the deal. No more hissing from him, no disagreement at all. There is food in that room, and nice kitties get things other kitties don’t get. Rubbing on the doorframe is especially nice.

Keep Your Friends Close, But Keep Your Catnip Closer

Jojo says, “Keep your friends close, but keep your catnip closer.”
Wise words from our senior lady as she has enjoyed a morning catnip party and settles down for a nap with three catnip toys, and eyes her fur brother over there in the plaid bed.

They’ve grown accustomed to me taking photos of them, and as long as food appears in their bowls when they want it, they don’t care what else I do. The bathroom is so small, and with the door closed I can’t even back up far enough to get a good angle. For these photos, I set my camera on the floor by the door, pointed it at Jojo, and hoped for the best.
I also took some lovely photos of Lakota in the sun on the windowsill, but Jojo’s were first. We can feature him tomorrow.
And that’s not counting the ones of Mimi out in the yard with me—three times today! I’ll have to find another way to share all these daily photos…
NOTE: Jojo was her name when she joined us, but I changed it to Emeraude a few months later.

Caturday Art: Where’s Dinner?!

What it’s like being faced with five black cats who are demanding dinner after you’ve been gone all day.
I posterized the original photo to try to capture the sense of blazing indignation.

Pomegranate Toes, 2012

One of Kelly‘s tortie hind paws is solid black—well, it does have a few orange hairs in there, but it’s more black than a lot of her other parts. But that foot has the special red toes that have always looked like pomegranate berries to me. Kelly is sleeping in one of her jumbled positions so in this photo, you see both of her hind paws while her front paws are tucked in elsewhere. Just to clarify, somewhat, I’ve included another photo of her sleeping on the stool, below, from a slight distance. The angle of the light and the color of the light is what makes the coloring in this photo so odd, but you “get the picture”.

Kelly’s pomegranate toes.
Well, maybe this angle is a little more clear, but not as cute. I’ve just been enjoying so much Kelly sharing my studio again.

And…Totally Relaxed

Sshhhhh…it’s Wordless Wednesday…and Kelly is having a really, really good nap so don’t wake her up…
Kelly has always been a little uptight and sleeps with awareness, but now that she’s 18 she sometimes drifts off into deep space while she’s asleep and looks as if someone has draped a cat-patterned cloth on mom’s easel stool. Mom had to catch her when she started to slide off—headfirst!
