Daily Photo: Black and White on the Garden Path

Mimi walks down the garden path.
Mimi walks down the garden path.

There’s just something I love about this photo of Mimi walking away from me on the garden path. I asked her to do it so I could see what kind of photos I could get. She was such a good girl that she not only walked away from me, but she paused at the end of the path, and then turned around and walked back to me, just as if she’d read my mind, which I know she does.

We are stuck inside today with cold and wet and snow, not too much snow, but Mimi and I have gotten used to the warm sunny afternoons, and I’m disappointed I can’t work in the garden. But it’s spring and more warm sunny afternoons are on their way.

Mimi walks back.

Lazily watching lazy snowflakes on a lazy Sunday morning. Basil.

Ready for My Closeup

I’m ready for my closeup. Basil settles happily under all the lights as I set down a clean white board and turned on all the lights to work in my studio today.

Window Silhouette

Now Bella is in on the act. Well, I needed a break.

Running out of names for these silhouette photos. Sometimes I like the photographic shortcomings of my smartphone, like its inability to handle contrasts and losing all the detail in the lighter areas.

Bella pauses for the purr-fect silhoutte.

Wordless Wednesday: Me and My Shadow Having a Bath, 2015

Smokie begins his post-breakfast bath sitting in the warming sun in the kitchen, casting interesting shadows of himself along with layers of other shadows.

These sunny mornings have been intoxicating upstairs and downstairs. We’d forgotten what the sun was like! I forgot what fun I could have with shadows!

Good noms! Good shadow!

Even when the bath is done there is still time to sit in the sun.

Sit quietly and cast an interesting shadow.

Oh no, are someone’s toes getting out of line and need a pounce?

Wordless Wednesday: Sharing a Spot of Sun, 2013

Three, 2011

Three

I know Mimi is thinking, “One spot of sun on a tiny little table all to myself and I still can’t get away from these kids.”

Any self-respecting spot of sun has to have a cat in it, right? How about three?

Here Mimi, Mewsette and Mr. Sunshine line up to catch the morning sun in their favorite room, the bathroom.

The sun has moved along, but Mr. Sunshine thinks he emits his own sunshine. He has something of an ego. He actually jumped up after Mewsette, who jumped up after Mimi, thinking perhaps there was some sort of a giveaway, then he sat there waiting for something to happen.

Mewsette followed her mom up there and they bathed each other for a bit.

Photographing three black cats so they don’t look like one big lump of black fur is a challenge, to be sure, one reason I welcome the sun and left the walls in the bathroom white for reflecting.

Thinking Together, 2012
photo of two black cats
Two heads are sometimes better than one.

Mimi and Jelly Bean enjoyed a little quiet time sitting in the sun. Now that I’ve moved the geraniums outside, very early but it’s been consistently warm, all the cats can enjoy the sunny countertop by the dining room window.

They actually struck a variety of nice poses, one of which is also today’s daily sketch, coming up soon.
