Daily Photo and a Note: Autumn Adventures

Mimi plans her morning in the yard.
Mimi plans her morning in the yard.

Mimi plans her morning adventure, actually in the neighbor’s yard where she should not be. This necessitates a few changes to our daily activities and a few repairs of my fence around the yard along with a little cleanup—and I’ll be making a few repairs to The Creative Cat and my other blogs as well, a little more on that below. I guess autumn is a time for those things!

Once Mimi discovered the little tunnel through the brush along the fence she now heads right down the brick path in the garden and off into her little “wilderness” where as a human I’m too big and I can’t follow. It leads right to the “four corners” where our yards come together and a portion of my fence is down after a tree falling on it. The corner of the neighbor’s yard directly behind me is very densely overgrown, but Mimi emerges on the other side if it, stepping out into the grass.

The first time she did this I had an idea where she’d gone but couldn’t see or hear her, I just sensed where she was. Ultimately I saw a shadow her size moving through the brush, then heard the bell on her collar. She greeted me, and was very happy.

She would probably be fine, and twice I followed her on her little journey that way, meeting her in the neighbor’s yard, but each time she explores a little more and wants to go farther, and this is not acceptable because she will soon be on the street behind us. Mimi hates it, but she is back on her harness and leash. Hopefully over the winter when all the leaves have fallen I can clear more of the brush and grapevines and put my fences back up. It’s something I’ve been intending to do for several years anyway. I don’t like to see Mimi unhappy, and sometimes she hates her leash so much she just wants back inside, but I want to see her safe. She has begun to wander like this before and we just needed a few little adjustments to convince her to stay in her territory.

Mimi starts her exploration.
Mimi starts her exploration.

Finally, I’ll be able to make a few adjustments to The Creative Cat that I’ve anticipated for probably more than a year—I’ll be moving my entire hosting account from an older server to a newer one at my current host and upgrading my account to accommodate my four websites, bringing them down to two, and ecommerce. It’s been a matter of time and money to play this out, and being self-employed, time is money, so I’ve been dragging my feet with the move while my host has been patient and understanding. But the overusage as The Creative Cat and Portraits of Animals become more popular has begun to cost me, as has not having one e-commerce site to sell my merchandise but trying to use Etsy and FineArtAmerica and a few other online profiles. Even though I am busier at the moment than usual and more than in a long time, I decided the time was now to get the new account set up and start rearranging things here on The Creative Cat as well as start building my new ecommerce website.

For the past several months I’ve been having issues with The Creative Cat, temporary database errors, difficulty with widgets and scripts and all sorts of things on the outside, where you see it, and on the back end, where I work it. For the past month I’ve barely been able to browse comments, and posting articles, even spending a few hours drafting daily features and photo posts and the usual things you typically enjoy every day here, has become painfully difficult. I took a week or so off from posting entirely to see if I could remove, compress or rearrange things and that helped a bit, but I could really prepare only my daily features in a reasonable amount of time. Do you have any idea how many photos you’ve been missing? And news? Alvina went home, I have updates on all my other adopted fosters, I have new fosters, and my household is inspiring as always! And daily sketches, and new art, and sharing posts from Facebook and Instagram and so on?

I will have a lot of catching up to do when it’s all done, but even better, I’ll be able to integrate a new template that will make browsing so much easier. Honestly, I can’t find some articles myself, I don’t know how anyone else can.

So Mimi and I are off to fix a few things. I will have “cats for adoption” posts all this week because there are so many who need homes and so many stories, and I’ll share my updates on my adopted fosters as well as those who are here, along with as much artwork as I can share. The one thing that will slow me down over the weekend is that I am in another three-day exhibit, “Wings & Wildlife”, at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, and I’m not even done with my artwork yet—after spaghetti dinners and a three-day pet expo and several customer benefit events in October I’m still finishing and framing my new paintings and making prints for sale. Wish me luck!

I hope to migrate my site to the new server through the day today, Tuesday, check it over tonight, and switch from my current server to the new one overnight tonight or tomorrow night. The old account will still be available for a while if things don’t migrate properly. I expect a few troubles, but my hosting company is wonderful in helping with immediate and long-term solutions to things like this.

Once I’m sure the new site is back to normal I’ll be asking you a few questions about what you’d like to see on The Creative Cat, another thing I’ve been intending for a while but with the account and template issues I wouldn’t even be able to implement new things, so we’ll start from a better beginning.

So if I don’t post, or I don’t answer comments, or I completely disappear for a few hours or a day, you’ll know where I am—I’m either fixing my sites or I’m out in the back yard chasing Mimi!
