Cats for Adoption: Big Tabby Love

Oscar
Oscar

Who doesn’t love a big squishy tabby cat? I loved fostering Dickie years ago, an all-over brown tabby 15-pound bundle of love and silliness who fit right in with the household. That seems to suit their looks, as if they are big confident tigers of a slightly different stripe.

Oscar and King Thor were living the life outdoors as intact males and have the big round faces and husky body types to go with it. They’ve got a big love too—for humans especially! They’ve adapted well to life indoors, spreading their affection by following you around and giving you vigorous face rubs and head butts. Read about these boys, and don’t forget that adult cat adoptions are half off until October 31! Details below.

Like the song “Stray Cat Strut?” Well, it was written about me. I am Mr. Cool! My name is Oscar. I used to strut down the allies lookin’ for a fight and howled into the moonlight on a hot summer night. But, no more! Three years on the street were enough for me. I’ve got some scars and some stupid FIV thing goin’ on. But, nevermind that, because I am a lover. Casanova should have been my name. I am an obsessive lover. I will follow you around, your constant companion. I am very healthy, I love other cats (especially the ladies!). I like dogs. I get over stimulated sometimes and then get hissy. I am also scared of things like the vacuum. But, I’m getting acclimated to life inside. I would probably thrive in a quieter home without young children.

Ahoy!! My name is Thor, and I’m the man of the house! I get along with other cats very well, but I do not like dogs. They say that I’ve had a rough past, one that no kitty should have to endure. After all that, I absolutely love to be petted and cuddled with! And although I may not lay on your lap, I will keep your feet warm for hours.

I will be very shy at first, but once I trust you I’m a complete love bug! I love to follow my foster mom around, and I’ll give lots and lots of loving head-butts in exchange for pets! And then, I’ll lay down right by you and snooze. I do this really cool thing that mom calls “growl talking” while I’m purring and wanting head butts. I truly am a character! Mom said I look sad a lot, and she wishes she knew why. Maybe because of my unknown past? I’m not sure? Deep down in my heart, I believe my expressions may change, when I find that one true place called home, where I can be the king of the house, and love you forever!

Pittsburgh C.A.T. cats 10 months and older are adopted for half price until October 31!

Fall in love--with an adult cat!
Fall in love–with an adult cat!

Our foster homes are great, but every rescued kitty should have a forever home. Through October 31, Pittsburgh C.A.T. is offering half-price adoptions for all cats 10 months and older. That means you could even adopt two cats, like siblings or good buddies, for regular price you’d pay to adopt one cat. Twice the love for one great price! What a deal! Especially since all cats are already spayed or neutered, free of fleas, worms and all other parasites, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines and microchipped. You save a life when you adopt from Pittsburgh C.A.T. because all our cats were rescued, either from the streets where they were unwanted and often threatened, or from one of our shelters who couldn’t hold them because they were ill or considered unadoptable and we took them in to bring them back to health and find them a home.

I’m thrilled to say I designed this graphic too–and I hope it helps lots of cats get adopted!

Adopting from Pittsburgh C.A.T.

  • spayed or neutered
  • up to date on all age-appropriate vaccine

Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.

  • It’s so hard to resist the kitties at the shelter. We adopted a 5 yr old brown/black Tabby in 2015 cause he blinked back at me several times. It was true love. It wasn’t long before he took over the house.
