December Featured Artwork and Desktop Calendar: Colorful Dreams

marker sketch of cats
“Colorful Dreams”, brush markers, 5.5″ x 9″ © Bernadette E. Kazmarski

I’ve had this sketch in mind for December for quite a few years, but always passed it by. This year I couldn’t wait to share it: colorful, loose and relaxed, three sleepy kitties and colorful blankets that look like wrapping paper and a box. I have always liked the style I managed, how I caught their positions, the line quality outlining the cats and describing the wrinkles in the blankets. Taken all together it looks like three kitties exhausted by holiday festivities.

From November 2013 when I created the sketch:

Mewsette, Sunshine and Giuseppe enjoy a nap on my studio floor. I don’t actually have that many beds for my cats but toss whatever older fleece, crochet and knit things I have on the floor where it seems appropriate, in this case, it’s in front of the furnace vent. It’s also behind a door, and on cold days like today it’s about the warmest spot in the house. Sometimes all five pile up there, and I can hardly open and close the door.

Note that for once they are not their signature colors—Giuseppe is Sunshine color, Sunshine is Bean color and Mewsette is Giuseppe color. Initially they were white with the black outlines, and I didn’t want to color them in black because they’d all melt together, and I also wanted to convey the colorful scene. And I’ll bet they were having colorful dreams for all the lip smacking and sighing I heard.

I began the habit with the blankets and such because some cats pee a lot where they shouldn’t; Peaches was famous for this. Washing cat bedding was a heck of a lot easier through years of rescues who had both health and emotional issues when all I had to do was toss blankets in the wash. Plus, they love new beds for about two weeks, then they never want to see them again, even when I pack them away for a year or more. And these guys need room to stretch out!

This month’s desktop calendar

I’ve worked this image into a desktop calendar for you to enjoy and use for the entire month. Looking at the downloads from previous months and averaging out which dimensions fit which devices, I have reduced the number of variations from 12 to three. It was very time-consuming to create all the variations with new devices arriving all the time, so I have one for horizontal monitors/screens, one for square monitors/screens, and one that should fit the dimensions of nearly all mobile devices.

If these sizes don’t work for your device, or if you have problems, please let me know. Often I can troubleshoot the reason an image won’t download or won’t load on your device, but if I just can’t figure it out I can just email it to you and hope that works.

How to download and use your desktop calendar

  1. Click on one of the images below that matches the dimensions of your monitor to open the image in a new page.
  2. For desktop computers and laptops, right-click on that image and on a desktop computer choose “save as desktop wallpaper” or “save as background” or whichever option your operating system gives you to be able to do this. You may also simply save it to your hard drive and set it as your background from there.
  3. For mobile devices, download the image to your gallery then choose it as your wallpaper—this is slightly different on all devices.

  • Aww, this is a terrific image!
And around Eastside Cats, a box or a bag always has a cat in it!

    • Ha ha, that’s how I get things done around here with so many! I set out boxes and they eventually fill them up, then I get to work.
