Cats for Adoption: Torties Amelia and Emily Are Still Waiting

Elegant Amelia

I have not met Amelia and Emily though I’ve been in touch with the organization sponsoring their rescue and adoption, FosterCat, Inc. They were rescued about this time last year as young girls, they were spayed and vetted but live outdoors because no one has the space for them. I first posted their “adoption” story August 1, 2012, and since then their story has been viewed every single day, often by dozens of people.

Even though I’ve not met the two lovely torties, I feel a bond with them through my own two tortie girls, Cookie and Kelly. I lost Cookie earlier last year, then lost Kelly just days after initially posting about Amelia and Emily and considered fostering or adopting them in memory of my girls, but decided my household had had enough change for a few years.

But I would very much like to see Amelia and Emily in a home of their own. I will sponsor all costs for their adoption, and if you can only foster I will help with that as well. If they need transport or have any other needs, I will see that they have what they need to get to you.

. . . . . . .

Lost cats wander up to a cat-friendly door to find food and veterinary care, and rescuers will do what they can to care for all the homeless cats who come to rely on them for life’s necessities and for affection and the company of humans. Many rescuers and generous people who trap and rescue cats for TNR, intending to or needing to return them outdoors, find themselves in a quandary with cats who just don’t belong living outdoors.

Such are Amelia and Emily, two lovely and friendly torties who really want to have a human and a lap to call their own. They showed up together as older kittens or young adults in the back yard of a woman who rescues and cares for outdoor cats as well. Fairly clean and very friendly and in good health, they had to have been owned by someone, but no one spoke up for them. Their rescuer fed them, then decided to have them spayed and get them their shots and offer them for adoption. She couldn’t take them inside so they’d have to live on her porch.

And so they have, with good food and regular affection, and though they’ve been living on the porch for most of the past year they are still friendly—and still looking for a home.

Here are two torties that have been spayed and have rabies vaccinations, etc. and are being fed but are living outside. Amelia and Emily are around 3 years old but very sweet. The person feeding them would really like them to go together since they are siblings and would like to get them a permanent home before winter. If you have any interest in adopting these two sweethearts or know someone interested in two adults, please contact us.

Celebrate Adopt-a-Cat Month with two tortie girls! If you have a home, permanent or foster, for these two girls, please contact me right away and I’ll put you in touch with the people who have the girls.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
