Anywhere, USA (August 24, 2023) – Many animal shelters have started to adopt Return to Field (RTF) programs as an alternative to euthanizing healthy community cats, but what are the broader implications? How do RTF programs really work? And how can we be sure that we’re truly helping cats – and not just turning them away when they need our help the most?

Return-To-Field: How Shelters Save Community Cats will be live on September 16, 2023 from 2 – 4 p.m. ET. Hosted by Community Cats Podcast, and presented by Neighborhood Cats, this session is for anyone who has questions about RTF programs and how they help community cats.

Registration is free. Folks can register now to attend the live session, with a chance to ask their questions during the live Q&A and receive feedback from the experts who have over 20 years of experience in the field.

Anyone with an interest in joining the session can learn more and register here.

Recordings will be available to all who register. The recorded session will also be uploaded to the Community Cats Podcast YouTube channel once the live event has passed.

Neighborhood Cats helps caretakers, animal shelters, and every day community members help outdoor cats. Their team extends from New York City to Maui. They regularly lead workshops to help anyone learn how to TNR and maximize their life saving through mass trapping and targeting. The webinar will be led by Bryan Kortis, National Programs Director, and Susan Richmond, Executive Director. For more information about Neighborhood Cats, visit neighborhoodcats.org.

I subscribe to a variety of reading lists to constantly further my knowledge of health and welfare for cats and other pets, domestic animals and wildlife. I occasionally publish press releases I think my readers will appreciate, and I share them by choice with no compensation. When I am occasionally compensated for a post I clearly note that is a “sponsored post”.

Great Rescues Day Book

Each month features one of my commissioned portraits of a feline or felines and their rescue story along with a kitty quote on the left page, and on the right page the month name with enough lines for all possible dates, with standard holidays and animal-themed observances and events. Great Rescues also includes a mini cat-care book illustrated with my drawings including information on finding strays or orphaned kittens, adopting for the first time or caring for a geriatric cat, a list of household toxins and toxic plants, or helping stray and feral cats and beginning with TNR.

Each book includes also 10 sheets of my “22 Cats” decorative notepaper with a collage of all the portraits in black and white so you can make your own notes or write special notes to friends.

The portraits in this book, collected as a series, won both a Certificate of Excellence and a Muse Medallion in the 2011 Cat Writers’ Association Annual Communication Contest, as well as the 22 Cats Notepaper mentioned below.

  • More shelters need to stop the killing or stop calling themselves shelters. This is a great seminar.
