Marketplace: Purr!

“Purr” gift items.

I don’t know what it is I like about visual word puzzles, but I doodled them when I was younger. A couple of years ago I got a bug about the word “purr” and was determined to fit it into a cat shape. And so I did, though it took all of two years to do it. Last spring I’d presented my first sketches of this design for feedback, and these items are the result! With the little red heart motif it’s just in time for Valentine’s Day, though purrs are good every day of the year.

Jelly Bean approves! He has the best purr, so he’s the spokescat for this new design. This video shows one portion of the project, the one I finished first.

And everykitty had a paw in making all these items!

I made my own screens to print the design on a variety of items, and each is embellished with a red heart, whether it’s a foil sticker that I cut to fit the design, or raised fabric paint or even a heart charm.

I’ve made tote bags, accessory bags, framed prints and shelf sitter/wall signs all bearing this design. Above is the shelf sitter/wall sign which can sit up on a shelf or hang on a wall. I painted the 6″ x 8″ x 1.5″ wooden block white on the face and black on the sides, then screen printed the design on the face and embellished with a foil heart I’ve cut out with my Silhouette media cutter.

For the tote bag, I not only print the design but I also make the bag itself because I found it easier to print, and I don’t have to worry about finding the same bag so all bags are consistent. Totes are about 14″ x 14″ with a 3″ gusset, handles are 24″ long and made of 1″ woven trim tape.

My accessory bags are popular and they’re fun to make, so I decided to add this design to my Purr collection. I screen print the Purr design on lightweight canvas, add the heart embellishment, and stitch up the bag with a white zipper closure. Bags may vary slightly in size, but are just about 5″ x 7″.

I painted the 6″ x 8″ x 1.5″ wooden block shelf-sitter/wall sign white on the face and black on the sides, then screen printed the design on the face and embellished with a foil heart I’ve cut out with my Silhouette media cutter. The block can sit up on a shelf or hang on a wall.

I also decided to frame a few of these designs. I screen print the black image onto heavyweight multi-media paper, then add a foil heart that I designed and cut out on my Silhouette media cutter. It’s framed with a white black core mat and a matte-black 8 x 10 frame. I may make a smaller framed version as well.

Purchase from the Purr Collection!

I had planned a 10″ x 12″ pillow too, and I will have that in the next month or two. The fabric I’d planned wasn’t opaque enough and I wanted to shop around for a slightly heavier cotton that wasn’t difficult to order for this and Ailurobibliophile as well as other designs.
